As ie members worked on this high :vel of music, they began preparing mr their appearance at The Houston stroworld Music Festival. The ands traveled to Houston on April 5-17, 1988, and performed their musical selections for a panel of three of the nation's top music di- rectors. Both the symphonic and Concert bands were chosen as the BEST IN CLASS BANDS in both 4A and 4A-2nd band divisions. Con- tinuing the winning tradition and the quest for musical excellence the bands again performed in the U.I.L. Concert and Sightreading contest in Ennis on April 29, 1988. After a long and extremely suc- cessful year, the bands presented the annual Spring Concert on Thursday May 19, and recognized the contri- bution ofthe 22 graduating seniors. As always the bands contributed their spirit to the closing graduation ceremonies, and the 1987-88 '6SUPERBAND's activities were finished. Band

. ,',. fl NCME UP wr L www 2 THE ORANGE WAVE ISX Band The Rockwall High School SUPERBAND started rehearsals the second week of August. During this time. the band members had swim parties, catered dinners, and did their annual carwash. As football season rolled around the band com- bined again with the drill team, pre- pared for their contest season in marching. Competing at the Plano Invitational Marching Contest, the band won lst Division in marching, Outstanding Horn Line, and Best in Class. Competing in the U.l.L. Dis- trict Contest, the band again earned straight lst Division ratings, and 5 I I i was chosen to represent the distric in the U.l.L. Regional Marching Contest. By defeating Paris, Lan caster, and others thc ORANGEWAVE was chosen tc advance to the U.I.L. STATE MARCHING CONTEST. Member: traveled to Austin on November 9 1987, and competed with the top 4A bands in the state of Texas. Becaus of the extended football season, thg band did not perform their tradi- tional Christmas Concert, but rathei continued to bring the half-time special treats as the team advanced to state 4a state playoffs.
