R.H.S. YEARBOOK STAFF August 23, I987 Dear Acme Detective Agency. After hearing of your reputation for solving difficult cases, the R.H.S. yearbook staff wishes to enlist your services to investigate our situation. We would like you to determine the status of R.H.S., to do this there are many questions that require an outsiders perspective. We feel this case will prove interesting to you, we hope to recieve your response as soon as possible, you dont want to miss a . .;:.;-t.,...t- t-.. . i.. . minute of the school year. Sincerely HARD ; I EVIDENCE Getting up at such an early hour, I remembered why I hated going to school. While showering, I thought about my new school clothes, stone- washed jeans and my Rockville IIRox sweat- shirt, which I bought at G.C. MurphyIs, hoping to fit in. My alias would be John Smith, senior trans- fer. I was going to spend the day gathering hard- core evidence on R.I-I.S. I put on my watch-camera to snap pictures unno- ticed. I was tired but by days end day I had what I needed. My case is tak- ing shape . . . V '- .uoyoou-VIw l cantt believe it, these students have actually ac- cepted me as one of their own! Now, I can get the information I need from the horses tor studentsi mouthl The first thing I have to do is come up with a good question to ask these people. It will have to be short and to the point but still give me the info I need. Hmmmm. how about, ttWhat do you like most about R.H.S.?ti Yeah! thatis the ticket. New that I,ve got the question all that is left to do is talk to them. Where are the places to find students? There are lots of places that come to mind, the ttwall , cafetorium, com- mons, after school hang- outs, and classrooms. bserving my cli- ents. trying to ap- pear student-like and getting my in- vestigative work decided to concentrate my inves- tigation in a few areas. the peo- ple around me and the different sports and activities they are in- volved in. Sports seem to be a consuming interest of many of my Classmates. Hardwork. prac- tice, and determination are all important in their sports. By Fri- day afternoon the game is the main topic of interest. I have talked to several Junior High classes and they have a lot of complaints. The biggest complaints I got was that they didnlt like getting pushed around. When I asked them what their usurvival skills were I got a variety of answers. tll Keep your mouth shut. Most kids thought it was just better to stand there and keep quiet instead of talking back. CD Make friends with the older kids. One girl told me she just made friends with the older kids and then she didnlt have to worry about getting picked on. t3 Give them money. Several of the kids said that they would give the older kids money not to pick on them. Ml Tell them your dad is 6 feet 5 inches tall. One boy told me that he would tell them his dad was 6l5 and try to scare them into leaving him alone. Although there were many dislikes and disadvantages. I did manage to squeeze out some of the advantages. Most of them like being with the older kids and not being treated like a child. Several of them also said they liked be- ing able to go to dances, and to date. Many of their parents now let them meet their boyfriend or girlfriend at the movies or other places. - Karen Davis Pausing for a break during the busy d3 y UNDERCLASSMEN it FRESHMEN Life as a Freshman is not as easy as it may seem. As eighth graders we all imagined how much fun we would have in the ninth grade. Since we would li- nally be in high school we thought we would automatically be cool! Then in August, reality hit us, we found out that it is not that much differ- ent than being in Jr. High. It may even be a little easier. Along with the high- lights and all the good times come the minor setbacks and thc inconveniences such as: struggling through the mob in the 200 hallway, Mr. Saviols bug col- lection, more tests and a tougher grad- ing scale, first lunch hour with all of the jr. high students, and most ofall sharing classes with older student who, no mat- ter how hard you try. always Find a way to make you look dumb. Of course being a freshman has its advantages that Jr. High doesn't. Like if a freshman is asked by a junior or senior they may attend the Prom. They are also eligible to join more clubs and there is a wide range of sports they may participate in, they also date more and are accepted into the older clicks. Overall, freshmen life is pretty good. 1 think is was best stated by Christy Games when she said. uBeing a fresh- man isn't that much different than be- ing 3 Jr. High student because you are still the low man on the totem pole. - Brenda Thom 105 Jason Allcc Daniel Allcn Erick Angcll Jennifer Bcrn Bill Bolus Charllc Bcuis Jenny Bond Dunn Brillon Christ; Brown Tonya Buscnbark Juslm Clark Bnnn Crooks Shayna Doly Angie Dwycr Scou Edwards Tad Forrest Karin Gallagher Jason Gamcs David Goff Teresa Goggins Myra Hannah Joy Hanson Tanya Hardcn Joc Hendrix Starr Hubble Eric James Ara Jones Mary Jones Rachel Jones Jcrcmy Kinkcad Arxis Lane Sonya Lanc Mike Lewis Stephanie Lewis Holly Marlin Ronda McCoy Chrisly MCLtu Amanda Murphy Shannon Myles Gwen Naughlcs Samantha Noel Charllc Norris Shawn Pcrrlnc Cinrb Pclllgrcw Chad Pickcu Jann Picrcc Jeffrey Ping Jcnni Ping Jcrcmy Pricc Randy Robbins Gary Robbcrls Jason Roberts Eric Sellers Michelle Sollcrmann Toby Sollcrmann Billic Joe Thomas Jay Trahan Jamie Tumcy Shelly Whilcomb Jamey Wulcnmycr Nathan Woodard Pumclu York James Young N01 Pictured: Sam Cogdill Michelle Ingram Chad TaHman 108 Mrs. Allcc Mr, Bough Mr Bridge Mrs. Burncuc Mrs Bullcr Mrs. Campbell Mr Campbell Mrv Chapman Mr. Clan Mr Cowan H: , :11 RHS xhcrc are some unique indix .uuuls who try and push us 10 lcarn n10ru.mstrivcf0r greatness. We started with the bor- der of our puzzle as the school and itsl traditions, the charac- teristics that made RHS unique. Then we Filled in the heart of the puzzle with more specific pieces concerning the year, whether they were aca- demic, activity or athletic pieces. they all seemed to have their own special place in our puzzle of memories. Now as we fit the few pieces that remain, we realize that this has been a year like none other. It has tak- en many long hours of work to piece this together. Often we would still be at school after 10:00, trying to fit that square piece in a round place. Yet somehow we made it. As the last piece fell magically into place. we took a step back and looked at what we created, a book. piece by piece. Yearbook is a lot of work but we still find time for pizza on those late nights, trips to Opryland at the end of the year. We even went to competition and two staffers won placques. With all the work we do, copy, photogra- phy, layouts and design, it is still fun and great experience. As editors we come away from this with a lot of memories we will never forget. - Krista WeathermanHohn Soltermann 111315;, U! ! The end of a tough as- signment is here and all live left to do is the paperwork. As I think over the time I spent here the days blurred into weeks and 1 months as the time passed quiek- ly. I was hired as an outsider with an objective opinion,b11t' after the months spentmwith' students, faculty and administration at R.H.S, my objectivity is dwin- dling rapidly. Getting ivolved in acade1nics.,athietics and activi- ties, to main't'ain' my cover, yet still do myxjob has been a chal- nrlenge. As my investigation here ends: its hard to think of return- ing to my office and the backload of cases on my desk, yet I must. Rockville Junior-Senior High School is the BEST! CASE CLOSED! Time passes quickly in the life of an adolescent. When the lives of individuals so young come to an abrupt end all those around them share a moment of grief. As time passes and the shock of this tragedy dims. let us not forget Amanda and Andy. Let the memories and the ways in which these young people touched our lives be with us forever. Amanda Murphy
