Our freshman year was highlighted by winning first on our homecoming float and winning first on our skit at the Halloween Festival. Gur sophomore year was filled with nights at the ball- games and the Youth Center and with parties at each other's homes. The junior year was taken up by selling at football games and basketball games. Many were the times that more than one silly stunt took place at the stand.' The Junior- Senior Prom was the social event of the junior year. Many nights were spent in rolling crepe paperg finally came the night when we could start decorating the gym. Naturally, the climax of the big event was the crowning of the queen. Patty Pinegar received this honor with Shirley Holler and Glenda Gilderland sharing in this event. Our senior year was certainly a busy one. Announce- ments and name cards were ordered, received, and passed out. Then came ordering of our caps and gowns for baccalaureate and commencement. Only fifteen of the present students attended all of the twelve years in the Rockville schools: they are John Britton, Jim Buchanan, Alberta Busenbark, Qlenda Gilderland, U' , Billl Hobson, Irene Lawson, Judy McNTTTin, .Tim Perry, Patty Pinegar, Thelma 1?.urLc.e.Il.fl., Heaudette Seward, Bill Sowers, Ramona Timberlake, and Nancy Vandenbark. llcra Brad-Alld, semi.. JMMQ , A special thank-you is due to our senior sponser, Mr. Fred Holmes. Without his able assistance, l'm sure that the students would not have profited nearly so much as if we had not had him as sponser. Thank you, Mr. Holmes. -13- Compliments Qfq. Dr. Bloomer and Bloomer' I1 Senior Class Officers After twelve long, ardorous years of seeming endless toil, we have finally reached the ulti- mate, that of being a senior, and our long awaited for diplomas are just around the corner, almost within our tenacious grasp. We have sweat over our books, wrote themes and essays, crammed for tests and have been abused in general by such burdens shoved upon us. But now that is all be- hind us, and through these bleak recollections of all our work will shine with a radiant brilliance all the enjoyment, and pleasures that we have known and it will make the knowledge gained from a dusty textbook seem small in comparison when we evaluate the two. We mav forget how to decline nouns in Latin, how to figure out logarithms in Qeometrv, or how many men Hannibal lost when he crossed the Alps, but we shall remember vividly the dances we attended, the pep sessions, the red and vellow slips we collected, the traffic tick- ets, and the prom, which all underclassmen vearn with an impassioned longing to attend and all who attended cherish the memory above all others. Then we shall realize that the time spent was not wasted, that thev were probably the busiest years of our life, and we shall always carry deep down inside us the spirit, glorv, and prestige of old Rockville High School! -'14- Compliments Of: Bonomo's Store John Britton TY + 1 , 5 0 3 G52 Jim Buchanan vi l ? As burning at both ends for some 20th century. Fascinating excerpts from it fthose follows: the candle slowly burns out, fone that I have been timel I see by the su dial that this is the anniversary date of the class of '54's graduation. I am motivated to deeds of that grand class so that this was a time when men of it. It is my hope that as individuals that someday this put down in writing the noble that there might be evidence were men and women were glad I record the actions of these book might be found and used to demonstrate to future generations how to win friends and influence people. October l3,.l97l A.D. James Buchanan was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his novel, Sorrow In 5 Bnhslqg. So overcome was he by the fame this brought him that he is now living in absolute solitude among a devoted tribe of przmies, who never heard of his book. December l, 1973 A.DL Jim Seip left this country today to travel to England where he will become a chimney sweep. It is rumored that he will be assisted by a flock of swallows that he has spent the last ten vears training. January 14, 1975 A,DL Don McNeil is famous as a drama and literature critic He got off to a bad start when he panned a Circus in Madison Square Gardens starring Grace Freeman, Irene Lawson, Shirley Sherman, and Pat Pinegar. In his famous columm in the Rock- ville Gazette, he called them 'The Four Stooges' even though they had just returned from a command performance before the crowned heads of Europe. March rr, 1976 A.D. A news flash has just been received that Nancy Vanden- bark known to all as 'Miss G.E.' Clive wire! has contracted leprosy and is now existing on roots, nuts, and berries in the hills of Catlin. Ma! 31, 1979 A.D. June David Clodfelter, the teenagers idol received a great ovation today as he returned to the place of his birth. As a famous movie star, he was given the honor of riding around the square on the fire engine. He has done quite well in Hollywood thanks to the efforts of his wife, Sue and his famous horse 'S11ver'. 17, 1981 A.D. - It is with deep sorrow that I must record the fact that John Noblitt just committed suicide by stepping on a hard boiled egg at the top of the stairs. He was taken to the Clements Funeral Home, where as an old classmate, he was given a special burial. Doug Rogers, the charming evangalist was recalled from his task of converting the inhabitants of Venus to preside at the services. The Clements Funeral Home is very successful and has branches in seven different cities and three states. 'Digger' Clements is known by his trade name, 'You Stab 'Em I Slab 'Em'. Compliments Of: Dr. Golden august 19, 1983 A.D. Bill Hobson and Bill Sowers notified the world today that they are through relying on their brains to make their fortunes. Both have made millions by being checkers of the mechanical brain machines. They have taken an apartment in New York on 5th avenue where Bill Hobson will create jewelry and Bill Sowers will study ballet. November 20, 1985 A.D. The world finally got around to recognizing the fear- less deeds of Harry King and John Britton. They are recog- nized now as the first two men to ski up the slopes of Mt. Everest. :pril 30, 1987 A.D. Beaudette 'Clarence Darrow' Seward has just been placed in the 'Green Room' of the booby hatch due to her mental breakdown. She claims this breakdown due to the strenuous work she did on the Shirley Holler vs. Dr. Kinsey divorce suit. The judge returned a verdict of a 'tie'. Jerry 'The Plunger' McMullen is now on the road to be- coming 'well heeled' again. He was a sorry mess after he ran through his twenty millions and twenty wives. His faith- ful servant Paul Ellis, a retired pick-pocket, is an impor-- tant factor in Jerry's comeback. 4 1991 A.D. The Gilderland-HcMillin Nursing Home won world wide fame by winning the coveted 'Florence Nightingale' award. Both Glenda and Judith cater to the retired and deteriora- ting old commercial teachers. Male nurse Bill Hybarger ably assists these two in running a fine institution. February 28,vl989 A,D, ..lx..l.......... October 31, 1995 A.D. Tycoon Frank Swain has just announced that he will give a 850,000 bonus to both Alberta Busenbark and Becky Shanklin These two girls have been employed for the past twenty years as hog pickers in Frank's wig factory. The bonus is the re- sult of their suggestion on how to grow finer hair on hogs. January 3, 1998 A.D. Jim ngoudini' Perry has just proven to the state of New York that there 1sn't a jail that can hold him. Jim served one and a half day after being caught robbing SPSVBU- There was a mix up when the police arrived and as a result, his accomplice, Cynthia Harney, ended up in the grave and the corpse was taken to jail. Cyn was in a state of despair when they finally realized the mistake and rescued her from the coffin. December 12, 1999 A.D. Ramona Timberlake is now working as a curator of the turtles at the Bronx Zoo in New York. It is a sad ending for Ramona after she and Thelma Purcell received so much fame for their expedition to Galapagos. It was on this ex- pedition that Ramona met a handsome native and married him. Shortly after they were married he was killed by a hex and Ramona returned to the U.S. and the only trade the native had taught her--caring for turtles. January zo, 2001 1.11.
