Overpeck Smith's Clothing Store $$in The Iunior-Senior Prom The Junior-Senior Prom was held in the new gymnasium again this year. It was beautifully decorated with multicolored crepe paper and lilac entwined in white archways. The theme for the prom was. Stardust . Jimmy Adami's orchestra played beautiful music during the entire evening. Behind each music stand were colored lights which blended with the color scheme. Alberta Busenbark and Judy McMillin checked the coats; Dorothy Neet and Judy Humphrey served punch and cookies. The big event of the evening was the crowning of the queen, Pat Cover- dale, whose attendants were Lorabel Merry and Lucille Bohn. The queen and her escort led the Grand March.e Immediately following this a huge bunch of bal- loons containing fortunes were cut loose. There was a lot ofltime and hard work spent decorating and getting ready, for the prom. The excellent supervision and help of Mr. Adams and Mr. Holmes was greatly appreciated. The banquet was served by the class mothers. They chose the menu con- sisting of: fruit juice, turkev and dressing, parselv-potatoes, green beans, carrot sticks, celery, pineapple-carrot salad, hot rolls with butter, jellv and iced tea or coffee, ice cream and cake. The ice cream had fifty-one on one side and fifty-two on the other side. The welcoming speech was given bv John Tofaute, president of the junior class; the response as given bv Rav Harney, pres44ent of the senior class. Lorabel Merry read the class prophecv and Leon Bowman read the class will. We considered this the best prom and banquet ever given. Compliments of: John Alden Ford Sales Meadow Gold Milk SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Whewl At last our Idols have left the hallowed halls of R.H.S. We, the lowly Juniors, hope to someday take their place. As the New Year, 1960, rolls in, let us take a sneak preview of the class of '52. Under the snow-covered roofs of Rockville, we see many little parties; but the majority of the Seniors have chosen this time to get together and reminisce about old times. It was decided to have the party at the New High School which has replaced Old Faithful . Ah, we just made it! The orchestra is under the direction of that famous band leader, Earl tJiveh Miller. of course his star is the hot drummer, Jerry McMillin. People claim that he can work out chemistry problems for his six little Neet children while trying to make a living playing. drums . Compliments of: McFaddin 8: McFaddin Seybold Insurance The World Wide Wobblers basketball team is here eating up the refreshments made by Martha Lang's tearoom. The team consists of: Dick Faust, star cen- ter; Max Swaim hearthrob of the feminine fans; Don Vauters, known for his lightning plays: Jim Noblitt, the world's slowest player-the reason-trying to get his size twelve feet into size nine shoes; and Dick Spaw, who has achieved the height of seven foot two. or the various happily married couples are: tall, dark, and handsome Dick Faust and his wife, the former Betty Rae Beatty, who has devised a dye for red hair; Drummer McMillin and his wife, Marilyn; and David Skelton, who is noted for his intelligence, and his wife, Betty. Phyllis Martin is baby-sitting with their sixteen children; therefore she is absent. The glamorous movie star Love L'amour, alias Pat Coverdale, is here with her companion and secretary, Anne Hiatt, who owns a motel in Nevada for gay divorcees. A group of reporters and photographers tell us that the handsome inter- nationally known lover has arrived-our own Rob Vincent. Eileen Burks is here with her fifth husband, who owns all of the oil wells west of California. Dick Bush and Floyd Griffin are still bachelors, sad to say. They own a large chain of grocery stores and know how much it costs to keep a wife. Pat Elinich couldn't be here tonight because she mixed the wrong chemicals and is still in the hospital. President John Tofaute, Secretary of State Rosemary Overpeck, and Sec- retary of Treasury Ann Shanklin sent their regardS. They just couldn't leave WaShington with the tax budget staring them in the face. It seems that Ann Compliments of: Lucas Auto Exchange M. B. Welch has lost a penny and is to be tried bv Supreme Court Justice Sue Mendenhall. Lucille Bohn and Donna Cundiff are traveling in a side show entitled The Long and Short of It . We watched Pat Jones demonstrate How To Get Rid of Freckles on a 30 TV set donated bv Vulti-Millionaire Glenn Hardy. Nancy Clary and Carol Deplanty were on the TV screen for an hour for the advertise- ment of Lady's Bubble Bath featuring Bubble Dancers. Jane Patterson then gave a speech on Why the American People Should Support the Dogcatcher's Children . Louise Wood is studying art in Gay Paree. She is said to be painting mod- els from Bill Nash's French Modeling Agency. Bill is considered a great judge of beauty due to experience in R.H.S. Elenore Rowsey sent us her love. Unfortunately, she is busy flying her , 9 little rocket around Mars. Wilma Purcell, her co-pilot, is taking a census of all men on Mars. Lorabel Merry is spending a quiet New Year's at home grading papers. I hear she dotes on little boys so she teaches in a boy's school. Here comes Joanna Reed Jones and husband Gene Jones. Joanna has had a hard time at Marshall; Gene has decided to become a race car driver and she has to make a living by typing death notices. She gives all of the credit to her fine, congenial typing teacher, Mr. Holmes. Here comes Phyllis Hudson, who now writes books. Her last book, The To- faute Story , is a smashing hit, and will soon be made into a movie. Bob Seward owns a huge h,000 acre farm and is late because, after a hard day making snow men for his three children, Glenda made him clean up the house and wash the dishes. One second-one-half second --l2:OO Happy New Year!!! I hope you enjoyed seeing what happened to the Seniors of '52, as we did. I just know I will wake up with a hangover; Martha must have spiked the punch. Compliments of: ScwauVs Dry Cleaning Beechwood Restaurant SENIOR CLASS HISTORY A great deal of time has passed since we entered the first grade. Our early school experiences are so far in the past that we remember very little about the first years, except that they were the war years. The eighth grade was our big year. Fortunately for us the tarade school was so crowded that we had to go to high school a year early. I don't think the teachers would appreciate the mention of crawfish and frogs which were brought to class so I will say that we were known as the meanest class in school-a title which most of us sought and deserved. That was the first year we got a taste of basketball. In the grade school tourney we won the County Championship by one point. Few of us will ever for- get that game. The next year, when we entered high school, we had to relinquish our title as the meanest class to the class of '53. The teachers had by now decided it was a stage through which all students passed. The next four years were filled with hard work for sone of us and a lot more fun for others. There were basketball and football games to go to, the Youth Center and shows to attend, and parties that were cooked up at a moment's notice or when some one's parents happened to leave home for the evening. These and many other activities filled our spare time. Our freshman vear was quite a shock to all concerned. The freshmen who went out for football were like so many teacups in a china shop with a mad bull. We grew used to the high school attitude and lapsed on into our sopho- more year. This year was comparatively uneventful, but we looked with envy upon the juniors. In the junior year we were busy working to make money for the Prom and senior class trip. It was a great deal of work but much fun. Compliments of: Parkview Restaurant Family Drive-In Theatre The Junior and Senior Prom came in May. Every night for two weeks before we cut and wound crepe paper with which to enclose the dance floor we had created in the new gymnasium. Our last year finally came. Even though we were glad to see LL come, I think most 6k us had secretly dreaded it. It was the climax of our school life. It was the big year. We had the best football team we had had in years. The night of Homecoming we had a parade three blocks long. We entered a float in the parade which was lucky enough to win first. When we won the Wabash Valley, we celebrated for two days. A parade of cars Fridav night and a bonfire, snake-dance, and a weiner roast on Saturday night were the high-lites of this event. The night of the Halloween Festival was one of the coldest nights of the year. Despite the cold we made more money than we ever had heretofore. After the festival, we went out to Dick Spaw's sale barn for a party with the left- over cokes and pies. Only nine graduated that had started previously in the first grade. These are Lucille Bohn, Eileen Burks, Nancy Clary, Dick Faust, Phyllis Hudson, Phyl- lis Martin, Jerry McMillin, Dick Spaw, John Tofaute, and Louise Wood. Most of us have our favorite memories. The crazy things the gang did and the parties we had. To each of us it means something different. I wonder what my classmates will be like and what they will be doing in the years to come as they happen to glance over the annual or remember 018 R.H.S. . Special days and holidays have always been celebrated in our cafeteria by meals of amazing qualitv. Thanksgiving and Christmas meals always consisted of turkey and all the trimmings. Mrs. Clarence Bowman, Mrs. Pearl Doan, Mrs. Raymond Grafton, and Mrs. Warren E. Timberlake, our cooks, merit all the credit for the delicious meals served in our cafeteria this year. Parents of those who eat regularlv at the cafeteria this year were given a chance to come and eat at the cafeteria and to voice their suggestions and criticisms. This year's team was made up of a group of boys who played football for the love of playing, and it was revealed in their efforts. Thev completed the season with six wins and one defeat. The tcah was led by Faust in the scorin: department, who completed the seeson with 121 points. He was followed by Swaim at the other halfback position, who crossed the goal line for 97 points. These two boys held first and second positions in the conference scoring. The quarterback position was filled by chillin-his steady play kept the team in top running order through- ou: the year. The offensive line was composed of Noblitt and Hybarger. These two boys were outstandinz blockers and pass receivers. HcKurtry was adequately Filling the center position until he was forced to quit because of an injury. Hob Lee then took over very competently for the remainder of the season. The defensive unit was perhaps the best in the Valley as they held the opponents to 108 points in seven games. The defensive line was flanked by Voblitt and Sewers. The center was protected by Hchllin and Skelton. The defensive half- backs were Vc'urtrv and Vauters, with Skelton or Swaim at the safety position. Faust and Boblitt gained All-Valley honors and KcTilLih. a second team position: but the whole team must be congratulated for their fine showing. After several yells were given around the huge bonfire, all the students followed the cheer leaders up town on a truck carry- ing the traditional homecoming bell. The snakedance was formed at the corner of High and Varket streets. This was the longest snakedance in R.H.S. his- tory. Two of the feature events of the snakedance were entering the Ritz Theater and circling the courthouse. At the close of the snakedance a circle was formed at the startin: point. The close of the snakedance was symbolic of R.P.S. school spirit by singing the muchaloved Hoekville Hinh School Song . The Homecoming was a success from the start of the longest parade in his- torv to the thrillinq end of the football game. The parade contained floats from the class of 1C0? to the Class of 1952. As the New Year's tournament came around, the Box took the nod over the favorei Yecca team and gained prestige in losing a highly touted Rosedale crew in an overtime by one pOlFt. The team continued to make a no- ticed improvement. In the county tournament they knocked off Wellmore, Tangier, e21 in the final game, took the county crown from the favored Rosedale tear. M'is is the first time in five years that the 301 have taken this covete? title. The season record indicated that the Rox were an up and down team, playing their best ball in tourney competition. This year's squad was made up of five seniors, four juniors, and three sophomores. This indicates that the Box will have a team next year that will carry on the fine tradition of past teams.
