Elm Street. brimming over with a thirst for knowledge but a little scared too. There we met our first teacher, Miss Inez Ayres, who soon dispelled all our fears and gave us a good start on the road to knowledge. In our third year we entered the new school building. The next five years passed very swiftly and suddenly we found ourselves in the eighth grade, practically grown up, we thought. This year was filled with activities. We had a very fine basketball team. We published an annual. We collected paper to earn money for a class trip to Indianapolis which gave a very fitting climax to our first eight years of school. The year 1?L6 saw this same little group start out on another venture in learning--high school. The year passed swiftly and successfully, in spite of predictions to the contrary. Mr. McClellan was our sponsor and Darvid Busenbark was our class president. Several members of the class, toth boys and girls, at- tended the State Latin, Alegehra, and Musical Contests. In our Sophomore year Mr. Kersey was our sponsor and Charles Clawsonn our class president. Several in the class attended the State Latin, Geometry, 314 Musical Contests, where they made fine showings. One member of our class, Den- nis Lambert, was on the first ten of the basketball team. Charles Clawson and George McMurtry were on the football team. Our junior year was a busy one. We were steered through it by our very competent sponsor, Mr. Adams, and our two presidents, Maurice Askins and Jerry Welch. We sold all kinds of things to eat at the football and basketball games and at the Halloween Festival. Several of our boys made the first ten in bask- etball and also played football. Several in the class competed in the State English and Musical thtests. Nine of our group became members of the National Honor Society. Now we are practically at the end of our journey in learning. Looking over our school years, we find that fifteen of our class of thirty-three have gone to school here all twelve years. Those fifteen are Jo Schwin, Mary Ann Stover, Joanna Hopper, Lelane Farmer, Louise Mertin, Betty Seigilin, Katherine BrittOH. Lyndall Hoopingarner, Carole Dowell, Howard Wood, Darvin Susenbark, Dennis Lambert, Jack Cooper, Bill Hamilton, Gerry Fortner. Many of us will go on to school, but others will immediately enter some business. We sincerely hope that all of us will become useful citizens in the world we are about to enter. -lh- MemorieH THE SENIOR CLASS WTLL: 1950 I, Betty Seigelin, with complexion so vhlte, Will Joan Britton and Martha Lang a date every night. After Patty filled me with luscious home-cooked food, she escorted me to s room with a bed, a few chairs, a wash basin, and a radio. I immediately lay down and turned on the radio. Just as my eyes were becoming heavy with sleep, I arose with a jerk when I heard the announcer say, It has been the re-' quest of many of our fans that we gather all information we can on famous glass- es from different high schools in the United States. We shall start not with 2 class but probably Eh: greatest class of all times, unless the one which follow; ed it, exceeded it. This is the class of '50' fror Rockville High School. Could I believe my ears? Surely not. But now the announcer was proceeding with the prOgram saying, One of the best known celebrities of this class, es- pecially to the bobby scxers. is the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood, Darvin Busenbark, who is proclaimed by many to be following the footsteps of Rudolph Valentino, the heart-throb of the '20's. Also in Hollywood is Charles Clawson, who has just gone into partnership with Honest John , world-famed car dealer. Now before the public's eye is the Democrat nominee for President of the United States, Jerry Welch, who in his spare time paints cars for a living. Jerry is getting along marvelously under the leadership of his excellent cam- paign manager, Katherine Britton. Bill; .3F Rohm, better known as Hot Lips Rohm, is now featured with his trumpet an. -Is famous swing trombonist, Fred Eldridge, at the WaldorfeAstoria in New Yor' ity. The r larenowned Lyndall Hooningarner is now appearing at the Metropolit- an Opera ovw- accompanied by her husband, Jim Hartman. Lyndall's glamor-girl friend, J0 ghwin, is now flagging down trains with all the little Stoops at Waynesville, Illinois. Our old pal, Glenn Lenover, settled down on a farm with his little Gail southeast of Rockville. Speaking of Rockville, let's look st all the old alumni who stayed there. First on the list is Gerqy Fortner, mayor of the city, who has done much to aid in the welfare and expansion of Rockville, whose total pop- ulation is 990,999. This number will soon be expanded to 1,000,000 by the ar- rival of Jewel Personett's husband-to-be from Evansville. The bride will be attended by Mrs. Martha Bryan Hutson. Martha's husband, Smiling Gerald, re- cently purchased the Coliseum in Indianapolis. At the head of his costume de- partment for the Ice Follies is Betty Siegelin, Sonja Heine's favorite. Also still in ye old home town is Lelane Farner, manager of a teen-age clothing store, who still is hoping to receive favorable word from down Bridge- -17- Memories ton way. Doris Summerville has also set up a little bake shop there that 15 go- ing over in a very big way with everyone. The last one in this neck-of-the-woods is Joanna Hopper Shaffer, who is ree siding on a little fann southeast of Marshall. Roy Smith, known as Speedball , is expected to be a good contender for the SOO-mile race this year at Indianapolis. Also in the racing business is Jack Stoops, who is jockeying the great race-horse Long, Lean, and Lanky, at the Kentucky Derby. He has announced that after the race he will marry his fiancee, Mary Ann Stover. Howard woods.has now written three volumes of children's bedtime stories collecting a cool 8h,000,000 dollars from their publications. The three Martins have allL gained fame and fortune for themselves. First Louise with the help of elevator shoes is the star forward of the redheaded wo- man's professional basketball team, the Amazons. Next Myron Martin holds the world's record for the typing speed of 1000 words a minute. Myron's brother, Donn has also done well. He owns several oil, wells in Texas and in spare time plays basketball for the Texas Longhorns. Another old basketball star, Dennis Casanova Lambert, is following in the steps of Sigmund Engel, lady-killer and swindler of the 'h9's. Bill Hamilton, another Albert Einstein, has just invented a new space ship and plans to go to Mars in a very short time. Bill's old school-rival, George McMurtry, four-year varsity star of Notre Dame, now is the star quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams. Jack Cooper now owns a gambling casino in Las Vegas, Nevada called the Come One-Lose A11. Charles Newton, president of the F.F.A., has under its supervision develop- ed a new breed Of cattle appropriately named the New-ton Look. Ellen O'Haver, as everyone expected, entered the music world and is solo pianist for Phil Spitalny's All Girl Orchestra. Last, but by no means least, we travel to New York where Eva Lois world's professional chain smoker, gives advice to New York Times. Mash, the lovelorn column in the One of her most ardent readers is the gay divorcee, Carole Dowell, who is on the trail of a certain General Mills employee. This concludes our program but be sure and tune in tomorrow niqht for the Class of '51' of Rockville and learn the outcome of their conquering of the world.v -18- Memorie$- -19- Memories -20- Memories -21- Memories-- ROX HI-LITES STAFF Co-Editors .......... In order to accomplish all that we found to be necessary, we thoughtfully elected our class officers, who have led us through this year. The junior class has worked very hard this year selling at ballgames, dur- ing the noon hour, and at a stand at the Fall Festival. With the help of other classes we sold at our stand during the Parke County Tourney and donated the proceeds to the gym. Even while we were hurriedly trying to make money, some were capable of en- tering contests and competing in athletic affairs. But as the saying 7065; All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and to eliminate all chances sf becom- ing dull, we held a hayride and weiner roast at Carleton Butler's home, In keeping with the tradition the junior class again won first prize on the float in the Homecoming Parade.
