As the camera starts to roll, the highlights of 1953 and 1954 come on the screen. A big splash of red appears. Blood? No, only our lipstick-smeared faces, the after-effects of initiation. After wandering around for three days, we were finally noticed and a dance was given in our honor. Lynn Chase won the key to the school. Next came ,our class pictures - our first screen tests! After which we settled back into oblivion until - Boom! we were hit with one of the drawbacks of R.H.S. - midyears, After midyears, however, we felt nothing could stop us on our climb to fame. Oh what fools we were! ln May two lucky freshmen, Billy Liswell and Nancy Calhoun, were chosen to be attendants at the Sophomore King and Queen Dance. Having successfully completed our first year as starlets, we proceeded to elect our first class officers to lead us to future fame. These officers were: Donald Beerworth, President, Caroline Skinner, Vice-President, Pat Pliska, Secretary, Claire LaVigne, Treasurer, Elaine Pagani, Assistant Treasurer. See those cakes! The main corridor of Sykes Building is filled with the spectacular of the first activity of our class, a food sale. Encouraged by the results of our first activity, we proceeded to order our class rings with hopes of graduating in 1957. The rings were presented to us at the Ring Dance in early spring, thus adding another highlight to our growing fame. Our eyes are now greeted with a scene of royal splendor. Our class, after careful consideration, chose Wayne Kupferschmid and Caroline Skinner to repre- sent us in the old tradition of Kings and Queens of R.H.S. They were crowned at the King and Queen Dance by the Royal Pair of the class of '55. After gaining more experience and poise, and having a summer in which to rest,' we are ready to move again up the long road to stardom and graduation. To lead us we elected the following officers: Richard Dimock, President, Caroline Skinner, Vice-President, Judy Czarnecki, Secretary, Wayne Kupferschmid, Treasurer, Collins Skinner, Assistant Treasurer. Onto the screen dances a pair of flashy socks. Yes, iust socks, no shoes. For as Juniors our first fund raising activity was the annual Sock Hop. Barbara Orlowski and Roderick Auclair were lucky enough to dance away with the prizes for the gaudiest socks. See those bones? Could they be the symbol of some pirates or some starving freshmen looking for the cafeteria? No, only a few stray bones left over after we had our chests X-rayed. But have. no fear, nobody was allowed to starve that year for we held a food sale in the Co-Op and later we sponsored a delicious Ham Supper with Gail Risley as chairman. Not all our activities dealt with food however. In April a new tradition was started at R.H.S. with a combined Junior-Senior Prom. The set, at Northeast School where the prom was held, symbolized April Showers. The scene came to a close after a midnight supper at Caveys in Manchester. Realizing that our role as Juniors was near its end, we elected officers for our Senior year: Richard Dimock, President, Caroline Skinner, Vice-President, Pat Pliska, Secretary, Wayne Kupferschmid, Treasurer, Barbara Marsh, Assistant Treasurer. After a summer in which to prepare for our most colossal phase of stardom, we went back to the set full of pride and self-importance. Our year's activities started out immediately with the Big Brother-Sister Day for the Freshmen. The high spot of the day was an assembly conducted by our president, during which the presidents of the various clubs at R.H.S. gave brief accounts of their clubs' activities and purposes. We further assured the freshmen that they were welcome with the Welcome Frosh Dance. 40 CLASS HISTORY What is this now appearing, a Pawn Shop? No, just the stage of R.H.S. after four weeks of collecting and some of the hardest work yet to present itself on the road to graduation. Our Senior Auction was a huge success and our labor did not go unrewarded. As the primary purpose of the Auction was to make money for the Washing- ton trip, so also was the purpose of the Harvest Hop. This dance was held in November and was the last dance our class gave. The scene now sliifts to the State Armory where for the first time High School basketball was played. Our stars held a 12-7 win-lost record but missed tournament play by a fraction. Under the direction of Miss Murphy, the true players in our class were brought to light. This was done in the Senior play Time Out For Ginger. Following the tradition set last year, the Junior-Senior Prom was held in Moy. A gay and romantic setting in the Northeast School made the prom one of those special events one always remembers. On the screen come the Washington Monument and other sights from our Nation's Capitol where everyone spent a wonderful and exciting four days. The last few minutes of the film are filled with shots from Class Night and Graduation. As the lights go on, we can see our friends and classmates moving into the future, toward iobs and colleges, filled with memories of their four years at R.H.S. Gail Risley, Chairman Donna Smith Richard Dimock Donald Beerworth Caroline Skinner Carolyn Schulz SWR LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the graduating class of Rockville High School, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and fifty-seven, after four years of climbing the ladder of knowledge and having attained success through our bountiful talents, do hereby bequeath said talents to the poor struggling underclassmen, in the hope that they may attain the high standard of Knowledge that we have acquired. Robert Aborn leaves his seat in Mr. Young's Senior English Class to any under- classmen who can stand quick changes in temperature. Mike Lesizza leaves his seat in Music Appreciation to Tony Sadlak, who doesn't dig Elvis, but loves Beethoven. Carol Dawidowicz leaves Chemistry to any Junior thinking it's a cinch as she did. Jack McLaughlin leaves the school, in hopes that it will burn. Richard Dimock leaves his ability to think up excuses to get out of study halls to Robert Wallace. Marcia Clark, Joan Reutter, and Barb Gessay leave their title, The Three Musketeers to any three underclassmen who can get along as well as they did. 41 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT Hugh Taggart leaves his seat in Miss Baier's English class to any Junior who wants to get beat up. Rod Auclair leaves his bike to Jimmy McHutchison lunless he gets a Model A Ford on the road. Barbara Chemistruck leaves her seat next to Miss Baier's desk to Sharon Gayton. Donnie Beerworth leaves the duty of delivering the absentee list to any sleep- walking student. Barbara Caldwell leaves her locker to anyone who can find it. Antoinette Bender Smith leaves her ability to break thistle tubes to any under- classman who can afford it. Gail Risley leaves her homemaking ability to any underclassman worthy of it. Jackie Cormier and Nancy Carroll leave their duty to get coffee and doughnuts for the bus driver to any Somers underclassman who likes to walk early in the morningq A Charlie Warren leaves English class as quickly as possible. Fred Bird iust leaves. Juclie Biardi leaves her ability to make more errors than words per minute in typing to anyone who can do as well. David Schiebe and Donnie Schneider leave their seats in Latin IV to any Junior with a superfluous desire for Somnia. Jerry Nicoletta and Kathy Hills leave - together. Ursula Lynch and Joyce Key leave in search of Fleance - Get it? Barb Smith, Jan Arn, Judy Czarnecki, and Donna Smith leave their superb driving ability to the four most needy girls in the Junior class. Jackie Busher leaves the whole school to anyone who wants it. Dottie Luhrsen and Barbara Marsh leave a stove for future 18S English classes in order that the students may learn their gerunds, participles and infinitives in a comfortable temp. Bev Clark leaves the front seat by the piano in choir to any alto, who by some stroke of luck, made choir and needs the piano to stay on key. John Eicholtzer leaves to the future students of Miss Baier's class the ability to get along with her, as he didn't. Eleanor Brown leaves to Bev Etchells all her luck with Ralph. Pat McNulty leaves in hopes of hearing the pitter, potter of little feet within the next few years. Judy Marley leaves a pencil sharpener for every room which doesn't have any. Joe Dlubac leaves the pulleys, levers, and inclined planes to any underclassman taking Physics who can figure out their Mechanical Advantage. Janice Mudgett leaves her fondness for history to any underclassman who is in need of it. The fifth period trig class leaves a Univac machine to the unsuspecting Juniors planning to take trig, because they will be subjected to Mr. Murphy's demand for rapid computations. And now a parting word: The cat will mew and the dog will have his day and if you don't believe us, wait a bit and you will see.
