PHE TATLER GIRLS' BASKETBALL M V I CHAMPIONS We are verv proud to report agaln th1s year that the Rockport Beaver ettes have won the Medomak Valles League champlonshlp 1n basketball We have had a very successful year w1nn1ng seventeen out of elghteen games and many beheve that th1s vear s team IS one of the strongest evel to represent Rockport H1gh School Our only loss was to Camden s Crxmson T1de who were the Knox L1ncoln Class M champlons We had prevlouslg, defeated them on our home floor At the close of the regular season we played the M V L All Stars at Unlon IH a game Whlch proved to be rath er slow as we easlly outscored the opposltlon Sara S1monton Co Captaln Shxrlene Heath and Barbara Wood made up a forward trlo that would compare wlth any 1n the state and Gall May Jean Frye Judy Young and Beatrlce Th1bodeau ably seconded them Co captaln Helen Leland flanked bv Martha Hallowell Norma Heath and Florence Frye proved a tower of strength at guard Others are comlng up but we ll surely mlss those famous left hand hook shots of Sara s that dr1v 1ng play of Sh1rlene s the cool steady play of Barbara and the alert guard play of Helen next season We would l1ke to thank our coach Mr Leonard for all of the help 1nstruct1ons and the tlme he has glven us thlS year FRESHMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL Reahzlng that we would suffer heavv losses 1n glrls basketball ranks when graduatlon arrlves th1s vear It was declded to keep the Freshman g1rls workmg 1n a separate group although several were nearly ready for varsltv compet1t1on th1s season Consequently games were arranged w1th grade teams from schools 1n the v1c1n1tv and some real compet1t1on was ex perlenced They were very successful ln the1r work and are eagerlv look mg forward to a step up next season The members of the group were Ruth EYICKSOH Deborah Hanna Barbara Smlth Dorothy Ulmer Geraldlne Pound Nancy Young Susan Coodrldge Meg Flsher Beverly Clough San dra Morton Lmda Ames Lmda Spear Leona Gagne and Joyce Farmer GIRLS SOFTBALL Our f1rst year at softball was not very successful We play ed f1V9 games wh1le only w1nn1ng two However we expect better results th1s vear and hope to make a better showmg 1n the M V L race The members of the squad are Helen Leland Sara Slmonton fCapta1nJ Shlrlene Heath Beatuce Thlbodeau Jean Frx e Florence Frye Gall Max Martha Hallowell Glads s Kee Wlrgmla Ulmer Norma Heath Greta Norbeck Joanne Morton Jamce Small Rowena Tw1tchell Judv Young and Marleta Erlckson It 1S expected that th1s group vull be mcreased bs manv cand1dates from the Freshman class when the f1rst pract1ce IS held ' 23 . . . 1.
