2 THE TATLER February 20 Rockport 24 Thomaston 31 At Thomaston The squad d1dn t look too good agamst the Thomaston lassles ln thls one Nothlng seemed to work as It should March 6 Rockport 34 Appleton 27 At Camden Th1S was the game' We were really pleased w1th the result of th1s plav oif game The forwards plaved well w1th Alexander and Rlchards s1nk1ng 15 and 13 pomts respectlvely Also many pra1ses to the guards for holdlng the opposlng forwards under control The eastern d1v1s1on champlonshlp was ours March 12 Rockport 38 Erskine 24 At Wlscasset We vu on the t1tle of Bulwer League Champs thls evenmg w1th every one play 1ng a wonderful bame VS e vslll be proud of that banner as It hangs IH our new gvm next fall Alexander and Grav paced Rockport w1th 12 pomts each Our guards held the vaunted Erskme attack away from scorlng terrltory most of the game Barbara Thornd1ke 54 R BOYS BASKETBALL The 1952 53 Rockport Hlgh School bovs basketball team had a very successful season It succeeded 1n capturlng the txtle 1n both Eastern and Western D1v1s1ons of the Bulwer League Th1s 19 the first bovs champlon sh1p Rockport Hlgh has had s1nce 1925 Much credlt goes to Mr Sutherland our coach XR ho made us dlg IH and work hard both IH practlce and IH the games Captaln Ralph Thornd1ke our center was hlgh scorer for the vear and wlll rank as one of the greatest centers ever developed 1n thls sect1on MCDhCt6lS and Teddv Sulhvan at the forward posts vuth Marvln Welt and Davld Grey two capable and dependable guards rounded out a verx strong startlng qulntet D1ck Deane Herbert Annls and B111 Spear for xx rds xx 1th Harold Crockett and Farlton Farlev guards furn1shed strong altclnates November 21 Rockpolt 49 Wlscasset 50 At W1SCaSS6t A last perlod drlve nearly pulled th1s one out of the fire for us Welt Thornd1ke and McPheters wele reallv droppmg them through but WIS casset s Hersom had top hono1s wlth twentv two pomts November 25 Rockport 59 Thomaston 74 At Rockport We had a good mght w1th Welt and Thornd1ke golng n1celv but Thomaston was red hot and could not mlss December 5 Rockport 42 Umon 44 At Umon Th1s was our first league game and a heart breaker too We enjoyed perlod leads for the first three quarters but ln a r1ot of no1se and confuslon Umon made two foul shots for a foul commltted as the whlstle blew for endmg the game and we had dropped our thlrd stra1ght December 12 Rockport 65 Br1dge 29 At Rockport We had llttle d1ff1cultv 1n thls one w1th our forward l1nes dropplng them ln regularly and our guard sect1on throttllng the Brldge attack L .. ,.
