I V I J H., -.' all V. vb K, K ' 1 J G JJ In 1967, Gene Marlatt was the Social Science Department. He taught history, philosophy, economics and political science. He intended to stay only a year ihaving had more lucrative professorship offers callingl, but saw during that first year, the tremendous potential for the small Christian college of 129 students and 6 full time instructors. By 1970, the goal of a fully accredited, quality, Christian liberal arts college was well in mind. Rockmont exists today because during the critical years of 1969-70, when it was planning to close due to financial difficulties, Gene Marlatt, along with a few other dedicated personnel, led the student body in prayer, and went without salaries for an extended period of time. Finally, in the fall of 1970, God honored the sacrifices taken through the unexpected sizable sale of a tract of land. The Flockmont family rejoiced, for they then knew they were meant to stay. This incident, happening more than 10 years ago, is not isolated or irrelevant. We are here today, and we continue to strive toward our goals, due in no small part to Dr. Marlatt's faith in, and commitment to Flockmont. With love, the Yearbook Staff dedicates this book to him.
