B ECKMAN THE FIRST CHRISTMAS lf I hadn't known Christ until just this year, Then this coming Christmas would be one of special cheer. I would be looking forward not only to the fun, But also to the birthday of the Chosen One. I can look back with joy to my first Christmas with Him, When I first knew of Jesus and His death, paying for my sin. As you can guess, we are now well acquainted with each other, For every day is victorious as we travel life together. And so I invite you to join me as I sing, Bringing birthday wishes to Jesus Christ my King. -Sandy Watson Sandy Watson's poem Robots was printed in the National Spring Anthology of Colleqe Poetry in April oi 1986. ROCKET ACTION KLMO to broadcast Rocket home games on Dec. 5. 17: Ian. 17, 16, 28: Feb. 6 and 18. 1.B.M. Corporation is the sponsor. Announcer Frank- IGy's broadcast covers 70 miles on your 104.3 .FM dial. Christmas Comes with Joys and Sadness As we approach this Christ- mas season, may I make a few practical suggestions? The 1966 holiday season will be a sad experience for the fam- ilies of the eight nurses slain a few months ago in Chicago. Or, for the families of those killed by the maniac from the tower of the University of Texas. But even worse, for the bereaved families of Aberfan, the little mining town in Wales where re- cently an avalanche of rock and slag buried the school house, killing 146 people, mostly chil- dren. Having experienced a stark tragedy since the previous Christmas season, these families must sadly struggle through a season that ordinarily brings joy and laughter. Those of us who have not faced such terrible circumstances this year are privileged. It is our chance to add a plus factor to our own Christmas, at least We have life! When you return home, let your parents enjoy you. Be around. Some of your parents are sacrificing considerably to help you through college. They don't want to feel rejected when you return home. Visit your friends, but make a point of be- ing home as much as you can. Remember you have matured a little, and you may look at your family quite differently. They, on the other hand, may still be in the same old rut, facing the same old problems. Let your presence at home bring sparkle and happiness, not con- flict and rebellion. The Babe of Bethlehem, who left heaven's glory to take our sin upon Himself, has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Let His presence in your life affect your tongue, your spirit, your attitude, your values, your out- liiok - even towards your fam- iy! You will indeed have a gen- uinely merry Christmas if you do these things. He came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. CHRISTMAS IN OTHER LANDS Christmas in Lebanon is much like it is in the United States. There are Christmas trees, songs, decorations, good food, and fellowship. The Protestants carry on most of the celebrating, however. The Catholics put much more em- phasis on the Easter season. During this time, school is out for fifteen days as it falls be- tween semesters. The govern- ment takes a five day vacation. December 25 is Christmas, but the merriment lasts for several days. The Catholics attend Mass at Midnight on Christmas Eve. The radio stations play Christmas music from 10:00 Christmas Eve until the next morning. The first day is spent visiting. The next day everyone goes to the mountain Arze, which is about twelve thousand feet high. Lebanon's President visits a different church each Christmas. Last year he attended the Free Baptist Church which is where Fouad Tannous goes. Fouad says that his parents have played Papa Noel' many times for friends. Papa Noel brings such things as shoes, clothes, and candy to the chil- dren. Christmas dinner consists of chicken, sheep, rice, and fruit such as apples and oranges. -Cont. page 2 Miss Shirley Porter and Mrs. Ron Grenemyer serve the unique Rockmont Homecoming cake. These counseling classes were to prepare interested Rockmont students to coun- sel those who would come forward at the pre- sentations of the movie. Mr. Dick Dodge is a Prudential Insurance agent. He and his family reside in Colorado Springs and attend a Presbyterian church there. To him counseling isa way oflife and his inter- views with people about Christ usually startas a business appointment. Mr. John Morgan is a structural engineer and also resides in Colorado Springs. He alsoattends the Presbyterian church there. Mr. Morgan says that counseling deepens our Christian lives. Three to four hours ofhis week is spent teaching others to counsel. The proof of this conference came when the interested students activated their knowledge for counseling. 43 l Initiation K qu n Q if if 1 1. f . 'T JY x rx ff The Museum The Rockhounds and the archaeology classes of Dr. Dametz several years ago gathered rock specimens and ancient artifacts. With this headstart, Dr. Dametz gathered together what is now known as the museum. Much of the material thatisfeatured in the museumwas either Found by Dr. Dametzhimself, his classes, his clubs, or they were donations. Many of the Features in the museum include such things as: geology, minerology, paleon- tology, archaeology, gemology, and natural sciences such as sea shells. His collection in- cludes spears, guns, beautitul rocks, and Fossils. This is the most overlooked aspect on the Rockmont campus, yet it is the most valuable and interesting of all aspects. gg, Faculty Wives Standing: Mrs. Parkin, Mrs. Beckman, Mrs. Cramer. These Faculty members have realized what the Lord can do through the power of prayer. The wives of these members have realized this too. On each Wednesday during the year the Faculty wives have met For prayer together. They have been aware of the needs of the school, its staff, and the students. We thank these women For their prayers and their concern. so , Ladies' l . . Auxlllary Standing: Mrs. L. Johnson, Sec.p Dickey, Vice Pres.: Childers, Pres.p Matthews, Proj. Chairman, Zentz, Pro. This move is made with many mixed emotions as many of us, both students and faculty, move. We will miss the friendly faces of Longmont people, the friends we have made at the different places of work, and the beautiful Long's Peak. Longmont has become the home for many students. She has come to mean a lot, for this city is centrally located, close to many large cities and places of interest. We students of Rockmont College thank Longmont and near-by towns for providing us with places of employment, parks of recreation, and the Black Angus, Bike's Patio, Hamburger Haven and A8.W Drive Inns. To the various churches, we thank them for providing us with a place to worship. We appreciate the opportunity to have an active part in each differ- ent facet of Sunday School and Church. The entire student body, faculty, and staff say THANK-YOU to Longmont for its friendship and hospitality. Sincerely yours, Rockmont Col lege V4 ,r 4 5.1 ull' M ' lfll-n Wil. MEMCDRIAL ' s ,ry , Q ,, .s Sfsgf ' gs Ernest Fowler lcenterl and fellow linguist, Carl Lehmann, at work among the Motilones of northeastern Colombia Their elderly informant, Papa Marte, is chief of the tribe. Ernest L. Fowler, 58, veteran missionary of Latin America and 1933 graduate of Rockmont, was shot and killed on August 3 by a gang of bandits as he ministered among the Motilon Indians in the Colombian mountains. Fowler, his daughter Valerie, l4,and a girl whoworked for the family were returning from a mountain hike when the bandits, dressed as po- licemen, confronted them, took Fowler's shotgun and machete, and shot him twice in the face and once in the back after he had fallen. This is a memoriam for his thirty years of interest for the Motilon Indians. His love for these people and his mastery of several of their dialects led him to this pioneer ministry. That is something to be able to say. It has been a very trying year, but through God's grace and many prayers the Annual was Finished. Using the theme, The Lord ls My Shepherd , we have tried to create an Annual that every student would be proud to own. We thank Mrs. Miller, our Sponsor, for serving as Business Manager afterClay left us. A special thanks goes to the Staff and the Students For their cooperation in trying times. We hope you each enioy your personal record of each event, activity, and memorable moment of the T966-67 school year.
