We four fellows of the Rockmont Chapel Choir Quartet have given our lives to the Lord Jesus and, through singing, are seeking glory for Him. Pep is not the com- plete story. Under the consecrated direction of Jesse Jones and sparked by a desire to use their talents for Cod's glory, the ensemble presented patriotic chapel programs and provided special arrangements of our favorite hymns. One of the many interesting sidelights o'f this musical organization is the GERMAN BAND, which is composed of five members and which provided no small amount of humor for the student body. The GERMAN BAND, together with another member of the ensemble, formed a Brass Choir. This sextet per- formed for the school at the annual concert, in chapel, and at other musical programs in the city. Yes, the band was a real source of inspiration and spirit, and it will be a long time be'fore we can forget the familiar strains of our pep song as they played it for us during a successful basketball season. In the hospital, tears of gratitude dampen clean White sheets, in the Sunday School, wlggling boys and gnls listen 1n rapt attention, and little voices pray earnestly for unsaved friends, Moms and Dads, in the mission, a drunken man kneels at the feet of the Saviour, in the state home, love- starved hearts grope eagerly to understand the love of Christ, in the pene- tentiary, a new convert sings to a hushed audience, MNearer My God to Thee -his new life radiating through a sin-scarred face. There are difficulties too: lack of finances, snow drifts closing in on mountain Sunday Schools, and above all, the ever-present forces of the Prince of the power of the air. Nevertheless, every field worker sincerely echoes the words of one mem- ber of our hospital gospel team: ulnstead of our giving them something, it is they who always give to usf' I l I x l V l v l l l L 1 I 4 l I 1 L l l ir wil PEP CLUB DONNA BILL LOL ABELLE Hereis a hearty hurray to the cheer leaders and the cheering sec- tion for their excellent, enthusias- tic support at the home games. Some of these are ping-pong, checkers, chess, badminton, ten- nis, shuffleboard, and volley ball. However, the high point in intramural activities is the annual intramural class basketball tournament. The 1949-1950 tournament was the most ambitious ever attempted by the Athletic Department and included a round robin schedule with each class playing each of the other classes two times. Victors in this play-for-keeps sports classic this year were the intelligent and fighting Seniors, who lost only one game in league play. The Juniors and Sopho- more tied for second place, and in the play-off contest, the Juniors squeaked by the Sophs by a single digit for the coveted second position. The lowly Freshies started each game fast but ran out of steam about midway and ended at the bottom of the heap. Keen spirit, fine sportsmanship, and a red-hot rivalry made the tournament one of the best in Rockmontls history. Mit DON X fxf - 1-s k 4,, D I VARSITY V M J I .m-.W m,m.d.,, . ' , - is A Q eg I, ig?
