Haggai 2:23 The annual staff chose this verse as the basis for the name of our annual. In view of the Lord's gra- cious leading, we believe that He has chosen Hockmont and put His seal upon us. Our hearts fill with thanksgiving and anticipation as our College looks forward to a fu- ture with Him, for He says, 'I have chosen you...that ye should bring forth fruit.' John 15:16 i To our home churches, who have labored in love with us by prayer, sacrifice, and encouragement, that we might study to show our- selves approved unto God, this book is gratefully dedicated. hifi? i if .ez .V , .MWA 17, ,.. ,. ,, . Its program of activities includes music, drama, cre- ative writing, and art. Students have been given opportunity to learn the effective use of these talents in the various pro- jects which the club sponsored this year. Delta Beta Chi made its debut early in the school year by sponsoring an all- school Halloween party - a hair-raising success. As an appropriate echo of our Missionary Conference in January, Delta Beta Chi produced and directed the chap- el program, 'William Carey.' its spring emphasis resulted in a talent-packed amateur program. All these projects have discoveredmich hidden talent among our students, and have been the means of putting it to work. CAMERA CLUB THE MARRIED STUDENTS' FELLOWSHIP The Married Students' Fellowship of Rockmont has afforded a splendid opportunity for married students and their families to be- come acquainted and to have fun and fellowship together. During the group's meeting on the second Friday evening of each month in the student lounge, games are played and refreshments are served. A brief enjoyable devotional period always closes the meeting. The average attendance, including the new generation, has been about fifty. Officers of the Fellowship are: President, David Kline and Secretary-treasurer, Nlrs. Darrell Plinsky. Nlr. and Mrs. Robert Conard are faculty sponsors. l i I l tl -w-Q A i il ll -4 is 4 4 Qin., fl Hz .-5, ii if l l EMBRYONIC PREACHERS LIMITED 1 illll l l Operations Committee: Keith Fredriclxson, y Virgil Horton, Robert Fredrickson. l Treasurer: Virgil Arrowood. l Embryonic Preachers Limited is a fellowship within the ranli. l of'would be' pastors. Pi. Huddlestun Bill jackson Vice-President: Bill Jackson Bert Phelps Secretary: June Nlontague June Montague The Soul Winners' Club was organized for the purpose of distributing tracts in order to reach the men, women, boys, and girls of Denver with the gospel of Christ. The city of Denver offers many op- portunities for Christian service to the students of Roclcmont. The door of the Denver liescue Wlission is always open to all those who desire practical experience. The third Nlonday night of each month has been scheduled as Soul Winners' night at the mission. As a club project, the members helped to distribute the 'Future l,ife' booklets, published by Mr. E. li. Perrine, a Christian business man of Denver. Mr.Perrine's goal is to place one of these booklets in every home in Denver. Effective soul-winning was empha- sized by the use of Dr. Walter Wilson's films on this subject. These pictures were shown in order that each member might become more effective in doing the work of our Lord. 'For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviourg who will have all men to be saved.' l Tim. 2:3,4 l i GO-YE The students of the college were greatly challenged with the needs of the world during Homecoming Week when Ur. Oswald LI. Smith, pastor of the great missionary-minded People's Church of Toronto, Canada, thrilled our hearts with accounts of actual experiences he has had on his visits to the various mission fields of the world. 'Why should anyone hear the gospel twice he- fore everyone has heard it once?' he asked in the regular chapel time on Friday, january 14. In response to this appealing message, most of the students stood to their feet signifying their willingness to go to foreign fields and, if they could not go, to send at least one 'substitutef As a result of this glorious conference, a wonderful new zeal was imparted to the student body. A noon hour prayer meeting was started with a different field especially remembered each day. Some of the girls made hallway posters to remind us of our obligation. Pledges to pray daily for foreign missionary interests were signed. We have had many challenging missionary chapel speakers since Mr. Casey Smith has sought to have at least one missionary each week. Every Tuesday night the individual bands met to pray for particular fields. 'lihey were divided into the United State s, Latin Americagliuropean, African, and Asian groups. Occasionally missionaries have spoken and shown pictures of their fields. , Q t hw , I l -Q.. In a survey made in April only thirty-one students re- ported no regular Christian activity assignments. The argest group of students are working in Sunday Schools. Seventy-one are enrolled as teachers and thirteen more are doing other jobs in Sunday Schools. Nineteen teachers tie for second place with the same number ol, students having music assignments. Ten regular pastors are students in the col ege, together with two co-pastors, three assistant pastors, and four with irregular preaching engagements. In third place are eighteen students doing young people's work. Seven students are in ospel teams and four are in rescue mission work. Tgree workers each are assign- ed to junior churches, boys clubs, and Pioneer Girls clubs. Other students are engaged in su plying trans- pvtation for Sunday School children, radjio work, 'an- itor work, and in providing Christian services in liios- plitals, convalescent homes, and the Colorado State ome for Dependent Children. Rockmont students have reportedthat under their ministr man souls have come to a savin knowled e of the ford Jyiesus Christ, and a large numier of baci- slidden Christians have been restored to fellowship. , up W fret W CLUB PEPH es PreSident Eleanor av in-esident Ruth Hwiilgif seem na 1 r ?,-cetona Koch, Tfeasure CHEERLEADERS A real 'Hats offl' to our cheerleaders this year--Milly Molyneux, Lolabelle Ayers, and Gene Wood. Under their 'enthusiastic leadership, the pep and loyalty of the school have rocketed sky high. Violet Beebe and Ruth Ann Lewis, as substi- tutes, have added their zest and vigor to cheer the Hockets to victory. 19 Stan Mayer, Bob Falk, Coach Witham, Bud Lynch, ,lack Wilson, Berl Atkinson. VARSITY Rockmont's most important sport is basketball. Playing their first year of stiff collegiate competition, the Rockets won about one-third of the 25 games they played. Many of the teams they played were well sprinkled with former high school all-stars while many of our play- ers had had little experience before com- ing to Rockmont. Although the records on the books may not look so good, we know from seeing the team play that we can be mighty roud of our boys for their fine spirit ofpfight and good clean sportsman- ship on the floor. Many an opponent has complimented our team for this. The Rockets have certainly been a testimony for the Lord in their games. Helping the team on to victories and cheering even in defeat was a fine pep section led by our colorful cheerleaders. Mr. ,Iesse jones even brou ht out the new Rockmont band on several important oc- casions. During the last La junta game the band initiated the new Rocket Pep Song. Bob Falk was high scorer for the sea- son, making 327 points in 21 games he played for a game average of 15.6. He was high point man for both teams in 11 out of 21 games. During the homecoming game with the Fort Warren Avengers, Bob broke personal and school scoring records by pouring 31 points through the hoop as the Rockets ave good account of them- selves. A vaFuable addition came to the squad with the second semester as ,lack Wilson started school. Playing in nine games ,lack had the respectable scoring average of 10.2 points to follow Falk in points made. ln addition, his rebounding and fine passing gave the team a big boost. Coach Witham expects most of the basketball squad back next year with the addition of some very promising material in next year's freshman class.
