Ney, a prominent member of the Ladies Aux- iliary of the hospital wanted to give each gradu- ate a present of a pin Her two sons, Ferdinand and Manhattan Ney were owners of a jewelry store on Main Street where the Charles Store now stands. They looked at sample pins and worked out-the design of the pin, had the die cut, and the pins made for their mother so that they could be presented I . - . It is striving to find work you can love, job to which you can harness your heart. Anonymous 4 Rules f r Nurses 1-Hours of duty for day nurses, 8 A, M. to 8 P, M. Hours of duty fgr night nurses, S P. M. to 8 A. M. Nurses are expected to be prompt in reporting on and of duty, to the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. 2-Dey nurses are supposed to be in their own beds, and the lights out, by eleven o'clocl-t at night. Night nurses are supposed to he in their beds by 10 A. M. and remain there till 4 P- M., unless culled for class, or by special permission. 3-The full uniform must be worn at all times when on duty. It consists of a plainly made dress of blue checked gingham. The skirt is to be six inches from the floor. Apron of white material. made plain. gored not gathered, with 4-inch hem. 2-inch helt. finished with two buttons or studs, to reach to bottom of dress skirt and to come to within 2 inches of the end of belt in the hack. Kerchief is made of 46-inch batiste or lawn with 2-inch hem on the straight sides and 9. very narrow hem on the diagonal side. The cap is made of heavy linen, with a hemstitched band. the cuffs also have a hemstitchnd hom and are worn at the termination of the sleeve above the elhnw. Shoes must be black with rubber heels a.nd can be either high or low cut, but pumps will not be permitted. In 1912 living quarters for students were in the hospital. The rooms con- sisted of five double deck beds and each student had a trunk and a dresser. As the hospital census grew, four or five students moved on to Cantrell Ave. Later, about 1920, students were moved to a house next to the hospital, later known as the Staff House. In 1925 the Nurses Home was built, and was torn down in 1966 to make room for the new hospital wing. Due to a student overflow in 1927, the base- ment of North Wing, which is now house- keeping, was used to house extra students. The year 1930 brought con- struction of a Laundry Room and students were quartered on the second floor.
