decided that a long sea voyage would be the best thing to help me regain my health. But how about you, Ann? Where are you headed? You know mel I've always loved excitement, so I got a job in New York as reporter for the COCKMAN Daily. My first assignment was to collect a list of famous people to be in Who's What. After much pondering on the subject, I decided the one and only way to gather material was to meet the people. As I hurried down Fifth Avenue, anxious to get started, I barely escaped being trampled by a crowd of enthusiastic, hero-worshiping autographing collectors chasing the world renowned football coach of Notre Dame, whom I recognized as my former classmate, DWIGHT MAPLESl Dwight, however, had slyly given them the -slip and was casually trotting along behind them, minus his necktie and several locks of his red hair. The cries of the crowd changed to whistles as two glamorous models, LOYCE DABBS and BETTIE YATES stepped off the street car. Trucks were whizzing past me, and I was much surprised to see that two of them were being driven by REBA FRAZIER and MILDRED SMITH! I waved in happy recognition, jotted down some names, and hurried on my way. I I bumped into JOYCE BENOIST just around the corner and she seemed to be terribly excited over her new hat, an exclusive MARGARET RORIE creation. Joyce was a little afraid that her husband, S. F. COVINGTON, might 'not like the price, but I told her that the moment he saw that glamorous hat, he would completely forget the cost. As I needed a few more people for Who's What, I hastened on, only to come to an abrupt stop. Wasn't that ADA CADDELL I heard yelling, Extra! Extra! MCKENZIE sentenced to life im- prisonment in PARKER'S Pen? I borrowed a paper from JOHN MCPHERSON, a famous photographer who was standing nearby, and read that Benton had stolen a pipe from the WATERS and LEAKE Plumbing Company. A peculiar sight greeted my eyes next. BILLY POE, a successful business executive, was walking down the street dictating to his secretary, MARIE MCKAY, who was trying her best to catch up with him. Bill is a firm believer in outdoor life. BOBBIE GREER and LUCY MOORE, upon hearing I was a reporter, stopped to give me the latest gossip. Bobbie said that DON PHILLIPS had added two more days to -February so his job with COLEMAN'S Furnace Company would hold out. Lucy told me of the SHANNONHOUSE Dancing Srbool recital and persuaded me to buy a ticket to see the 'Twirling Top! in action. At an ice cream stand, I purchased a luscious banana cone from JEWELL THOMAS. Since she was collecting the new COBLE nickels, she dropped the money into her pocket and put another nickel in its place. MARY WATKINS and DORIS WARNER strutted by dressed in the height of fashion. Jewell told me that they had both snagged wealthy husbands. Remembering my ticket to a Radio City broadcast, I rushed in just in time to hear A. J. CHILDRESS advertising CLAYTON,S Wolf Pack Perfume on the ONLY WATTS program. HELEN GAR- RISS and INEX CUMEER then sang a tricky commercial, which reminded me of the soap I had to buy at MOSS' Department Store. I got there only two minutes before closing tirne. SINCLAIR ALLEN, the house detective, was suspiciously watching JULIA MEACI-IAM count the money in the cash register. BETTY MCLEAN helped me select the best box of DOROTHY REYNOLDS Soap, while ANNIE RUTH SMITH, who sold sweaters upstairs, was patiently waiting for the store to close. MARY CATHERINE MCDONALD began rushing the customers out because she was to take her husband to hear the REVEREND THOMAS MCLEAN at the seven o'clock prayer meeting. ANNIE RUTH RAWI.S, who must have remembered something she had lost, was tearing madly out of the place only to catch her scarf on a HOOKS' New Fangled Firlaing Hook. After setting her free, I completed my list and took it to the editor, THOMAS SNEAD. After glancing over it, Tom decided I needed a long, long, rest, so here I am vacationing in the Pacific and having the time of my life! Breaking the silence, we heard a strangely familiar voice crying, Land ho! Glancing skyward, we saw MRS. GARRETT on the ship's sight with MISS CROSLAND at her side, both extremely excited over their fabulous discovery. ANN GARRETT Boa STANSILI. dst
