HOMECOMING 1986 Beth Hogerty escorted by Jim Miller This year, change even permeated the always anticipated RHS Homecoming Week. The week began with the traditional Homecoming Mass. The queen candidates, accompanying their escorts the entire day, attended a continental breakfast, mass, and classes. Wednesday brought a new event to the Rockhurst community. The NHS StuCo Air Band Competition was truly a highlight of the week. The night was filled with many thrilling performances, culminating with a set by the winning band: The Blues Brothers. After a noon dismissal on Friday, an unprecedented number of students, including many underclassmen, stayed to contribute their part to the superior dance decorations. Later that evening, the varsity football team recorded the season’s soundest victory. The Hawklets defeated Southeast 44-0. After the game, parents and alumni had an opportunity to view the dance decorations at the parent walk-through. The festive week found its summit in Saturday night’s Homecoming Dance. The theme of the evening was “Around the World in Eighty Days.” Student crafted decorations transformed the school’s lower level into sites from all around the world—from Paris to Peking. Although change had its effect on Homecoming 1986, the week still provided a pinnacle of spirit and brotherhood in the fall of the year. 12 THEME
