On Sunday, October 2k, 195k the dedication service was held for the third section of the modern school plant now housing Rockford community's 650 school age boys and girls. The new addition was started in 1951 when the need for more class room space became very apparent. Ralph Merrill, architect of Lima, designed the building and presented plans which were approved by the Board of Education and then by the electors on November k 1952. The bond issue was passed and the building was sold on April 3. The breaking of ground took place on April 27, 1953 and the building was occupied on September 1, 195k The building is of reinforced concrete and brick construction with most inside walls being of glazed tile. The corridor floors are terrazzo and the class room floors are of plastic and asphalt tile. The total cost of the project was $k58 000 which included new lights in the old building and new seating for grades one through four in the old building. The senior olass in appreciation dedicates this ”1955 Rocket” to our superintendent, Mr. Lloyd H. Iler, and to the local Board of Education for their efforts in making the new addition a reality and for their continued zeal in raising the standards of our school. Below is a snapshot taken by Mr. Ernest Thompson which shows those taking part in the dedicatory service.
