Senior History It ' s the fall of 1950-. Forty-six noisy green freshmen enter the halls of Rockford High to spend the next four years working for that small, important slip of paper, our high school diplomas. For many graduation is a long way off and it i3 too soon to worry, while to others it is something to strive for, a sort of goal. To aid us in starting our climb from underclassmen to upper class- men we have as our advisor Mr. Cover. During the year he is called to serve in the Army. Although we lose a well-liked friend and advisor, we gain a new one, Mr. Granger. The class as a whole takes a trip to Cincinnati to visit the zoo. This is a new adventure for us since it is the first class trip we have ever taken that leads us so far from home. We choose Delores Sommers, a new student at Rockford, as representative of the class at the Homecoming. The following are our officers: President, Delores Sommers; Vice-President, Martha Shaffer; Secretary-Treasurer, Linda Abbott. Another year has passed and we ' re sophomores already, all forty-four of us. Now we can laugh at the new freshmen who have started the long, hard drag. Mr. Granger is again our advisor. We decide to plan for the future and start a Travel Club. The dues increase each year so when the big moment arrives to start our last trip together, we will have enough money to travel wherever we wish. The annual class trip is again one of the big events of this year. We take off for Toledo to visit the zoo and stop at the art museum. Class trips are fun, but all nice things come to an end. Marlene Provci is chosen attendant to the queen and the following students elected as officers: President, Rex Cochran; Vice-President, Doris Becher; Secretary-Treasurer, Jack Butcher. Think of it J Now we ' re Juniors, but this is to be a very busy year. First of all we elect officers, the results are: President, Martha Shaffer; Vice- President, Mary Linda Maurer; Secretary, Linda Abbott; Treasurer, Marlene Provci. Next, we choose our clas3 rings, but oh there are so many styles. At last we arrive at a decision and everyone awaits the day he will receive them. They ' re herej We feel like seniors already. We must start planning for the prom al- though it seems like a long time till spring. Meanwhile the Juniors are very honored to have one of their classmates. Martha Shaffer, elected Homecoming Queen. Joyce McBride is chosen attendant. Again we plan our class trip. Every year the Juniors usually visit the Armco Steel Mills at Middletown, but we also stop at the Dayton Power Light plant. We choose The Man Who Came to Dinner as our class play. Although we had some doubts, it did prove to be a success. It ' s spring and time for the prom. The plans have been carefully made. Our first formal dance and even the seniors are excited. Our plans were not in vain. Everyone enjoyed the prom and soon forty-two Juniors will be seniors. Yes, we made it. It seems that time has flown faster than we expected. Just a few months and we ' ll have that diploma. There are still 42 of us, but we have lost four old classmates and gained four new ones. Miss Severns is replaced by Mr. Granger as advisor. The following is the final choice for class of- ficers: President, Roger Perl; Vice-President, Linda Abbott; Secretary- Treasurer, Mary Linda Maurer. We take our class trip to Columbus, but most of us are look- ing forward to the end of the year since we have decided to go to New York and Washington. That is if we have raised enough money. Homecoming arrives and again one of our classmates, Delores Sommers is elected Homecoming Queen while Mary Linda Maurer is chosen attendant. The graduation pictures have been taken and name cards ordered. What a mad scramble when they finally arrive. ' Commencement is almost here. As we recall the last few years we remember that the class as a whole was noted for its noise. If anyone was too noisy, we were the culprits. Baccalaureate services arrive and pass, the last diploma has been handed out at Commencement and congratulations have been extended to all graduates. As we leave our school days behind us. we once more look into the future. What does it hold? That is for us to find. — Mary Linda Maurer TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION The seniors express their appreciation to the board of education for their part in making our school life worthwhile by giving of their time in seeing that proper facilities and administration wae available during our stay in school. The present members of the board of ' education are: L. W. Merkle, Philip Runyan, Paul Shaffer, Wilbur Stover, Charles Buel and Stanley Bricker, clerk.
