■' • Senior History It ' s the fall of 1950-. Forty-six noisy green freshmen enter the halls of Rockford High to spend the next four years working for that small, important slip of paper, our high school diplomas. For many graduation is a long way off and it i3 too soon to worry, while to others it is something to strive for, a sort of goal. To aid us in starting our climb from underclassmen to upper class- men we have as our advisor Mr. Cover. During the year he is called to serve in the Army. Although we lose a well-liked friend and advisor, we gain a new one, Mr. Granger. The class as a whole takes a trip to Cincinnati to visit the zoo. This is a new adventure for us since it is the first class trip we have ever taken that leads us so far from home. We choose Delores Sommers, a new student at Rockford, as representative of the class at the Homecoming. The following are our officers: President, Delores Sommers; Vice-President, Martha Shaffer; Secretary-Treasurer, Linda Abbott. Another year has passed and we ' re sophomores already, all forty-four of us. Now we can laugh at the new freshmen who have started the long, hard drag. Mr. Granger is again our advisor. We decide to plan for the future and start a Travel Club. The dues increase each year so when the big moment arrives to start our last trip together, we will have enough money to travel wherever we wish. The annual class trip is again one of the big events of this year. We take off for Toledo to visit the zoo and stop at the art museum. Class trips are fun, but all nice things come to an end. Marlene Provci is chosen attendant to the queen and the following students elected as officers: President, Rex Cochran; Vice-President, Doris Becher; Secretary-Treasurer, Jack Butcher. Think of it J Now we ' re Juniors, but this is to be a very busy year. First of all we elect officers, the results are: President, Martha Shaffer; Vice- President, Mary Linda Maurer; Secretary, Linda Abbott; Treasurer, Marlene Provci. Next, we choose our clas3 rings, but oh there are so many styles. At last we arrive at a decision and everyone awaits the day he will receive them. They ' re herej We feel like seniors already. We must start planning for the prom al- though it seems like a long time till spring. Meanwhile the Juniors are very honored to have one of their classmates. Martha Shaffer, elected Homecoming Queen. Joyce McBride is chosen attendant. Again we plan our class trip. Every year the Juniors usually visit the Armco Steel Mills at Middletown, but we also stop at the Dayton Power Light plant. We choose The Man Who Came to Dinner as our class play. Although we had some doubts, it did prove to be a success. It ' s spring and time for the prom. The plans have been carefully made. Our first formal dance and even the seniors are excited. Our plans were not in vain. Everyone enjoyed the prom and soon forty-two Juniors will be seniors. Yes, we made it. It seems that time has flown faster than we expected. Just a few months and we ' ll have that diploma. There are still 42 of us, but we have lost four old classmates and gained four new ones. Miss Severns is replaced by Mr. Granger as advisor. The following is the final choice for class of- ficers: President, Roger Perl; Vice-President, Linda Abbott; Secretary- Treasurer, Mary Linda Maurer. We take our class trip to Columbus, but most of us are look- ing forward to the end of the year since we have decided to go to New York and Washington. That is if we have raised enough money. Homecoming arrives and again one of our classmates, Delores Sommers is elected Homecoming Queen while Mary Linda Maurer is chosen attendant. The graduation pictures have been taken and name cards ordered. What a mad scramble when they finally arrive. ' Commencement is almost here. As we recall the last few years we remember that the class as a whole was noted for its noise. If anyone was too noisy, we were the culprits. Baccalaureate services arrive and pass, the last diploma has been handed out at Commencement and congratulations have been extended to all graduates. As we leave our school days behind us. we once more look into the future. What does it hold? That is for us to find. — Mary Linda Maurer TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION The seniors express their appreciation to the board of education for their part in making our school life worthwhile by giving of their time in seeing that proper facilities and administration wae available during our stay in school. Having just settled in our seats, the announcer came out on the arena. As he started to speak, we looked at each other. Could it be? Quickly glancing at our programs, we saw that our suspicions were justified. Yes, it was Tom Hicker- nell. Just then the trumpets sounded and out marched two bullfighters. Tom an- nounced them to be a special sister and brother bullfighting team — Norma and Dean Luginbill. Well surprise of all surprises. 1 After the bull had been slain and as we were loosening our grip on the edge of our seats, we heard a loud cry. Get your milk here. Twenty-five different flavors. My, that voice sounded familiar. We turned to look and saw that it was none other than Bill Eichar. We quickly jumped up to talk to him. After he got over the shock of seeing us, he told us that by feeding different types and colors of flowers to cows, he had invented twenty-five flavors of milk. Also he told us that the man behind the great bullfights was Dale Tracy, who trained the fighters. Well, we couldn ' t hold up business so we said good-bye and went back to our seats. Just then we looked down at the seat in front of us. Tapping that person on the shoulder, we asked, Could you be Paul Baucher? Well, it was, and he introduced us to his fiance, the daughter of the President of Mexico, whom he was going to marry next month. After talking to him for a few minutes, we dis- covered that the bullfight had just ended. We hastily said good-bye and started out. Outside, we noticed a hearse parked across the street. Sitting at the steering wheel, we recognized DeWane Eichenaurer. The building he was parked in front of read, Jim Stevens — the friendly undertaker, people are just dying to get in. We could not stop to see him because it was time to catch our plane again. We called a taxi and were cruising along when all of a sudden, we heard a thud and — of all things, we had a flat tire. The taxi driver hurriedly called up a garage called Master Moody ' s Machine Shop. We knew that this must be Bob, but we couldn ' t wait to see him so we caught another taxi and rushed on. Our next stop was Hawaii. As we went into our hotel to register, who should we see sitting behind his private desk but Leslie Putman. He told us that he now owned a line of hotels located all over the world. He then thought it would be a good idea to throw a beach party that night in our honor. Upon arriving at the beach that night, we first saw Gary Pryer who told us that he owned a huge pineapple factory that exported pineapples all over the world. Next we saw Delores Sommers who we found gave hula dancing lessons and had given several performances for the President himself. While we were eating poi, Royce Strayer walked over and told us that he now owned a large plantation and had Just recently become ex-governor of Hawaii. He said that Mary Linda Maurer, another classmate, was a model of Hawaiian bathing suits. Just then we heard the hum of motor boats and the splashing of water. We looked up to see Gene Counterman, Connie Stetler and Bill Youngblutt riding along on surf boards. When they saw us, they stopped to talk. We found out that Bill was now one of the best and most sought after pearl divers of Hawaii. Gene told us that he was a manufacturer of hula skirts. Just before we left, we talked to Connie, who owned an exclusive beauty parlor. She offered us an ap- pointment, but we had to decline, because we were leaving the next day. Then, saying good-bye to everyone, we went back to our hotel — our next stop being Persia. When we arrived, we asked directions to the palace where our old friend Bill Emans was the maharajah. He earned this title by entering a contest and winning it by writing a book called, Why I Would Like to be a Maharajah. When we found the place, we stumbled upon St. Dave George, who was coming out of the palace. We stopped to talk with him and he said he had just been out slaying dragons. He told us to go on in, that the maharajah was waiting for us. As we went on in, we smelled something wonderful, so we stuck our heads into the palace kitchen. There supervising the cooking was none other than Joann Zizel- man. Later we found out that she was a very famous cook and had been imported from the States. On we went until we came to a big brass door. We started to go in, but oops — wrong door. There guarding the door to the harem was Paul Hays. Finally finding the right room, we entered and there sitting on his throne was Bill. He told us to sit down, that the entertainment was about to begin. First came the harem dancers. Among them we recognized June Clutter, Sharon Van Tilburg and Joyce McBride, all dressed in glittering spangles and bracelets. (Continued) THE CLASS PROPHECY CONTINUED Their costumes were very beautiful and as we marvelled at them, Bill told us that they had been designed by Marlene Provci, who lived in the harem. As the dance ended, Bill ' s personal servant Lucretia Hawk brought in his cigar and slippers. We were very glad to see her and talked to her for Just a second be- fore the next act began. With a clash of cymbals, in came the knife dancer. Bill told us that he was Bob High. We held our breath while he performed his daring dance. The last act was Sireen, the snake charmer, better known to us as Irene Belna. The snakes which she used were all poisonous, but she seemed to hold some mystical charm over them. When it was all over, we talked to Bill while we ate our suppers, then were shown to our rooms. Early the next morning, we left for France. This being our final stop, we decided to take in the most famous places of Paris, the night spots. The most famous of the nightclubs was Mama Michael ' s, which we learned to be owned by Mary Ann Michael, another classmate. As we got out of our cab, we started in but recognized the cop in front as Jim Pierstorff . He said that he had patrolled that street for 20 years and thought he would retire soon. As we opened the door, we heard the liveliest music we had heard since leaving Old Rockford High. We looked immediately at the music stands. They said R C. We looked farther up in the orchestra and there beating the drums was Rex Cochran. Just then someone came up and asked if he didn ' t know us. We im- mediately recognized him as Jack Butcher. He told us that he managed Mama Michael ' s. Just then the drums rolled and out came two acrobats. Jack told us that they were Robert Grossnickle and Paul Canary. We watched as they went through their paces. While we were watching them, we saw a flash and looked up to see Miriam Bollinger Just snap a picture of us. She recognized us and chatted with us for a minute. She said that she was a photographer at the nightclub. Next came a trio of singers whom Jack pointed out to be Naomi Weinman, Roger Perl and Don Friedly. They had heard that some of their old classmates were in the audience so they sang, Hold That Tiger, in French. We thought we had better leave then, but Jack coaxed us to stay for one more act whom he said we would recognize. The spotlights were turned on as a dancer came out on the floor and went into a difficult routine. We asked if it was Martha Shaffer and he said it was. We stayed until her dance was over, then quickly said good-bye. We hated to go to our hotel that night because the next morning we had to return to New York. When daylight broke the next morning, we arose and collected our luggage. Hailing a cab, we started to climb in when we recognized the driver to be Bever- ly Shindeldecker, one of the few women cab drivers of France. We told her we were leaving and returning to New York by plane. When we reached the airport, we waved good-bye to her and entered the plane. So ends our story. But who are we? We are on a world publicity tour for our new picture, Those Rollicking Redheads from Old Rock High. —Linda Abbott and Nancy Scheetz CLASS WILL CONTINUED 1, Connie Stetler, will my position as lead drummer to anyone who wants to be responsible for it, I, Royce Strayer, will the bass drum and my tight marching shoes to anyone who wQnts th.Gm I, Jim Stevens, ' will my ability to get kicked out of the library to Mary Thatcher.
