Bonnie Hayes was chosen to represent the class as attendant for the home-coming queen. The class chose the following officers: President, Ned Temple; Vice-President, Gary Cook; Secretary-Treasurer, Bonnie Hayes. The sophomore class had as its enrollment forty-three in September, 1950, after losing Calvin Donovan, Harold Fleming, and Jerome Menker, but one new stud- ent, Bud Shivley, entered the class. Norma Granger had the honor of being the attendant to the home-coming queen. The advisor this year was Mr. Truitt and these were the sophomore class officers: President, Bud Shivley; Vice-President, Jonny Sidenbender; Secretary- Treasurer, Gary Cook. There were forty members in the junior class as we started out in 1951 with Mr. Schlatter as our advisor. We had lost Gary Cook, Zelda Ensminger, Norma Granger, and Paul Swander but were fortunate to gain one new student, Bill Von Wagner. In the fall at the home-coming game Bonnie Hayes was the Junior at- tendant. Charlene Replogle left during the year and we lost Bonnie Hayes through death. For our play we presented Tlsh , which was a huge success. The officers for the junior year were: President, Paul Jackson; Vice-President, Jonny Siden- bender; Secretary-Treasurer, Ned Temple. As the senior class entered its final year we had only thirty-five members. We lost Bill Von Wagner who returned to Germany, Josie Greene who transferred to Celina High School and Lowell Kimmel who was killed in an automobile accident shortly before sohool opened. We chose New York City as the destination of our senior trip. Nancy Daugherty was the senior attendant to the home-coming queen. The officers of 1952-53 were: President, Paul Jackson; Vice-President, Shirley Temple; Secretary-Treasurer, Peggy Simon. Board ot JEbntation The seniors express their appreciation to the board of education forprovid- ing for us a school and faculty that has endeavored to teach us the things tha will help us become good and useful cit izens. During our twelve years many changes took place within our class, the faculty and the board of education, but we feel that we as pupils have accomplished much with the careful planning of the board of education along with the administration and faculty. To L. W. Merkle, Philip Runyan, Walter Shaffer and his successor Paul Shaffer, Wilbur Stover, Charles Buel, members of the board of education and to its clerk, Stanley Bricker, we extend our thanks. We wish to express our appreciation to our bus drivers for their faithful service. Those driving busses in our senior year were: Reid Piper, Fred Kuehm, Kenneth Kimmel, Earl Lee, Bob Huffman, Grant Frysinger, Harold Huffman, Russell Fleming, Russell Yocum, Brookes Buel, and Norman Fahncke. For the photography of our yearbook we express our appreciation to the fol- lowing: Don Leitzell for the senior portraits and the group pictures and Harry I. Killion Sons for the individual pictures of students in grades one through eleven. % tnior pro p itt% Well, it ' s time for my annual trip again. Once every year I try to get away from my barber shop for at least a month. This year I ' m making a tour through Ohio trying to hit most of the large cities. At the station here in Cincinnati, I boarded a pullman and made my way to an empty seat. As I sat down, I noticed a Navy Admiral sitting a couple of seats in front of me. It was Don Whitmore. He came back and began to talk. He told me that in the next car were a group of Navy and Wave recruits that had been on leave. Among them, he said, were a couple classmates of ours, Connie Barna and Ronald Henkle. At Dayton I got off the train and took a taxi to my hotel which was in the heart of the city. That evening as I walked along the street, a theater light caught my eye. There in the lights was the name My la Weinman — now a great opera star. I went to the show and had a very enjoyable evening. I didn ' t get to talk to My la, but I did see her as she and her secretary, Helen Fleming, left by the stage door. The next day while I was shopping, I came across a very exclusive department store, The House of Glamor , which is owned by Pat Buchanan. Not wanting to buy anything, but wishing to talk to Pat, I went inside. After finding Pat, she told me that a lot of our classmates were working here in Dayton. She mentioned the fact that Peggy Simon and Donna Shindeldecker were still at the hospital where they had taken their training. Also, she told me that Gerald Barna and his en- gineering gang along with a group of road construction men were working on the highway between there and Springfield. Among the road workers were several of our classmates, Vern Bolinger, Gene Miller, and Dick Stetler. Next to the store was a theater in which Nancy Daugherty was giving a concert. Next my journey took me to Columbus. The hotel in which I was staying was the center of a Farmer ' s Convention. Among those present were a few from Rockford that I knew. Rex Buel, Dee Clutter and Reggie McBrlde were sitting at a table by themselves and Joe Howell, an agriculture teacher, was spokesman for Mercer County. As I was about to leave, I saw Paul Luth and Ned Meyer coming toward me. They stopped and talked a few minutes and then went into the convention room. By plane I left Columbus for Cleveland. I knew from letters I had received that Marilyn Friedly ' s photography studio was here and that she and her secretary, Martha Berry, lived together in an apartment with Jeanette Hoffhines. Jeane tte, I had learned from Pat, was a private secretary to Mike Dugan, who by now was a well-to-do electrical engineer. The trip from Cleveland to Van Wert was made by plane and one of my fell- ow passengers was a well-known social worker, Naomi Sipe. She was on her way to a new job in Toledo. As we chatted, she told me that she had had a letter from home saying that Bob Martz was out West now drilling for oil and that Paul Stoll had set up a garage Just outside Rockford. In Van Wert I hired a car from the Williams Drive-It-Yourself Service and drove to Rockford. At the drug store I saw Mrs. Donald Schaadt, the former Lois Temple, and she told me bits of Interest- ing news. Jonny Sidenbender and Paul Jackson, she said, were working together in the carpenter business. Roger Beougher, owned his own grocery and Jack Rutledge now owned three Diesels and was hauling for some company in Chicago. I also asked about Bud Shivley and Ned Temple and found Bud was farming and Ned was working at the Temple and Temple Tire Company. Having found out what all my old classmates were doing I considered this a most enjoyable trip and returned to my barber shop satisfied that the Class of 1953 had really taken an important place in the world. — Shirley Temple Class IPiU We, the senior class, being of sound mind and body, do make our last will and testament.
