BASKETBALL The senior class proudly dedicates this 1946 Rocket to the Basket Ball Team and the Coaches for bringing to Rockford its seventh Mercer County Tournament Championship and also the Mercer County League Championship The team with Its four senior members of the first five and six seniors of the first ten built up an enviable record during the season and In the county tournament So to the following team members—Edgar Bollenbacher, Jack Cook, Palmer Jackson, Paul Schaadt, Don Shaffer, Doyt Crouch, Keith Davis, Melvin Davis, Vlnoent IXigan and Richard Hurless and to Coaches Cook and Cover, we dedicate this volume of the Rooket The 1947-148 basket ball season was thrilling from the first game of the season to the last game In the district sectional. With a record of twenty-three wins and two losses the Rockford basket ball team gained a great deal of publicity and attracted large crowds of fans to the majority of its contests. Two of the spectacular games of the season were the Knoxville game, played in the Celina gymnasium, which Rockford dropped 39-41, after the lead had changed eighteen times, and the final game of the Mercer County Tournament whloh Rockford won from Port Recovery 44-42, coming from behind in the final minutes of play and then surging on to an overtime victory. The hopes for further conquest were shattered In the District Class ”B” Sectional when Havlland, a team Rockford had defeated earlier In regular season play, turned the tables on them and won 40-32.
