Our class officers were: President................ ...... ...........Max Stover Vice President........... ....Lloyd Bollenbacher Secretary and Treasure.......................Evelyn Springer Our social event for that year was the Freshman:Sophomore party. We started our third year with a sad drop in attendence, but a new desire to go ahead. Our advisor was Mr. Hoover. Our class officers were: President......................... .........Charles Dudgeon Vice President........... ...Chester Stover Secretary and Treasure.......................Margaret Gilson We elected Evelyn Springer as our Home Coming Queen Attendant. Our big social events this year were the Junior Play, nHe Cou1dn't Take It,N and the Junior and Senior Reception which was held at Van Wert. We regret to say, that one of our class, Robert Waldo, was killed in the summer of 1944 in a motorcycle accident. In September 1944, thirty-two Ueager to succeedn seniors started out to make this our most memorable year, under the guidance of Mrs. Whitley. Our class officers were: President.............. ....Evelyn Springer Vi P id t ce res en .......... .............Max Stover Secretary and Treasure......................Margaret Gilson Some of our outstanding events this year were: Home Coming game, with Betty Rowland as queen and Evelyn Springer as her Senior Attendant, getting our class rings in November, the Junior-Senior Soc Dance. We are now looking forward to the Senior Play and the Junior-Senior Reception, and last but not least, the Baccalaureate and Commencement. B---.wuvua4W'4 t4 71:13:42 PROPHECY After ten years of Chicago, we decided we would go home for a visit A friend of ours loaned us his helicopter to make the trip shorter A empty gas tank and a lost map forced us to land in a corn field Coming to meet us were two little children They asked us to come to the house to meet their parents, and to our surprise these two children who looked like twins, were the daughters of Doris and Carroll Bollenbacher They took us to a station near by to get gas We heard the air com pressor go psssst Turning around we saw Charlie Jackson's mouth over the valve of a tire trying to fill it with air We noticed that the owner of the station was Clifford Linton W started a conversation about the long ago, and they told us that Mary Ellen Putman was a chorus girl in New York where her husband was working Evelyn Springer was a news paper correspondent in Washington, and Max Stover was teaching mathematics in a big college Virginia Schumm was employed as a private secretary to a wealthy dairy owner in Texas Cliff said that although the war was over, Gene Linn liked the Navy so well that he just stayed in We asked about others, but they hadn't heard from any of the rest Departing from the corn field, ve again started on our way to Rock ford he landed at the airport and walked up past the old school house saw the same old Janitors cutting the grass They said the school hadn changed much except for a few teachers but it had quleted down since the departure of the Class of '45 Jeepers, were we surprised to see John Boyce on a high scaffold washing windows due to his father's advanced age Johnnie now did the dangerous work Discovering we were slightly hungry, we decided to go up town and eat before going home Walking past a welding shop we ran into Charles Steph enson, Lloyd Bollenbacher, and Dick Henkle having some machinery welded and talking about their farms Ne asked them about some of the people in our class They said that Charles Dudgeon had taken over the Little Elevator at the retirement of his father Margaret Gilson is happily married and lives south of Rockford Her neighbors are Lois Rutledge and Mary Donovan To our surprise Paul Morrow had given up women and farming and followed in his fathers footsteps as Ass. Manager of Production Credit of Mercer Co. As we started once more to look for a place to eat, someone yelled at us from across the street, and behold it was Betty Rowland. She was off for lunch and still worked at Kohn 8 Williams. We asked Betty where she usually lunched, and she said the Palsm Restraurant, where Ma Calaham used to e. The restraurant was beautiful. We were most cordially greeted by Marie and Margaret Merkle the owners. Our lunch was good, and you might say in- teresting because we learned more about our class mates. For instance Joann Hays, Ilene Hiatt and Ruth Shock are typists at the Fort Wayne Pipe G Supply Co. in Fort Wayne. Marie asked us if we saw in the Celina paper that Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Linn were visited by the stork and were the proud parents of twins. A boy and a girl named Robert Eugene and Betty Jean. We sent them a card of con gratulations. Bernadine Nuding is employed at the Producer at Celina, and Maurice Williams is a secretary at the State Accountance at Lima. 1 We were informed that Chet Stover was head chief at the Neal House in Co um us. Some customers came in and Margaret and Marie had to leave us. It was almost one o'clock, and Betty had to go back to work. That night we decided we would go back to the church of our childhood. We hadn't heard about all of our classmates yet. To greet us at the door was the superintendent, Lowell Deitsch. When it came time for the morning worship hour, low and behold, the minister was the Rev. Dale Granger. He delivered a most inspiring message. The following 'Free Verse' was announced over the loud speaker which describes the events just as they were carried out. HOMECOMING Welcome, welcome, Rockford friends, Welcome, welcome to you, ' Tonight we have a game to play And sonething else to show you, too. We're glad so Glad you kept Homecoming we many of you to see, this night free: all enjoy Down to the very last girl or boy. New cast your eyes toward the end And see what a beautiful sight is First comes the band in brightest Making music for this picture gay of the field, revealed, array, Next comes Charles Dudgeon Driving his car of bright blue, In it rides our former queens, still to R, H, 3, true. The year '58-39' had Ann Dugan, petite, In '39-40' comes Fern Meyers, so sweet! The year U40-41' brings pretty Imogene Reisch, And 41-42, our lovely Jean Robbins Secriat, In '42-45' the war took its toll, Alas, there was no Homecoming at all! But in '43-44', it again came alive And tiny Ruth Mae Fast, the queen's history-revived And now, students, alumni, and friends of R. H. S., The hour, the minute, the second does arrive, when down the field, to the tune of the band, Dick Hawk, his surrey and horse does drive. 'The Surrey with the fringe on top, is the tune, Done much better than Sinatra could croon, Riding high on the surrey are the queen and her court Each one of these girls has been a fine sport. ' The attendants are lovely, pretty, and fair, Evelyn Spr1nger's the Senior with a smile that is rare Pauline Bollenbacher is the Junior, our team Captain's sis, And the Sophomore's Madge Shock, a shy little miss. Lillian Shr1der's the Freshie, broken arm and all, She's doing her part, right with them all, And now comes the climax, the queen, so grand, Our own delightful, lovely, queenly-Petty Rowland. And now Capt. Bollenbacher approaches and places on her queenly head, It enhances her stately beauty, with great and Majestic renown. she gives to him the football, And a kiss for good luck, too. And with it her best wishes And she knows his best he'1l do 'es Then Charlie Kerr, Shawnee's captain advances And presents a bouquet of brightest hue, And although her hearts with her alma mater, She wishes him good luck, too. . , . , f X as xx x X x V- -A 1 l f ffl ff' 1' -'f'- ff' ,-' . Teams were chosen by Evelyn Springer, Bernadine Nuding, and Betty Rowland and a round robbin was played during the noon hour. Bernadine Nuding's team turned out to be the best kickers. Then as the nice weather ceased, Lois Leighner, Ruby Pond Matilda Pfister Virginia Alt, Mary Ann Hawk and Joan Boyce, chose basketball teams. Lois Le1ghner's team came out victorious with no losses. Our volley ball season consisted of a double elimination with D'Meria Moody, Gloria Crabtree, Betty Rowland, Mary Ellen Putman, Evelyn Springer, and Bernadine Nuding acting as captains battling for top honors. The fourth and last main intramural sport was softball. The teams were organized the last few weeks of school and the number of games played was de- termined mostly by the weather conditions. Outside of the four major sports the girls have opportunity to partici- pate in four individual sports--archery, which was purchased last year, bad- miton, which was purchased this year, swimming, and ping pong.
