With these words, East High's auditorium, filled to capacity for all three performances, was transformed into the Indian territory, now Oklahoma. Under the direction of Lin- den Lundstrom and Adeline Hoegberg, the choral department presented the musical play, Oklahoma, by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The action centers around the romantic interest of two young lovers, Curly and Laurey, each concealing their love for the other. Curly, an Oklahoma cowboy, finds himself in love with Laurey, the niece Of Aunt Eller, a farm woman of the territory. Suspense is brought into the picture by the presence of Jud Fry, Aunt Eller's hired hand, who unlike Curly, does not try to hide his feelings for Laurey. Humor is added by Ado Annie, a foolish carefree girl, who always finds herself involved in a love affair with the fellow of the hour, first Ali Hakim and then Will Parker. The bitterness between Curly and Jud is brought to a cli- max when Jud, who has taken Laurey to a box social, is out- bid by Curly for Laurey's box lunch. Then Curly's love for Laurey becomes apparent, and their love prevails. Audience Captivated by 0kIahoma lVzll Parker KKen Staff! When Susan Abbott's attractive mother, Abby, en- tered as a freshman the same college where Susan was a sophomore, life became quite complicated for Susan. Because of financial difficulty, which would keep Sue from continuing with her schooling, Abby accepted a generous scholarship which provided enough to send them both through school. Expecting the cool treat- ment from the other students, Abby was quite sur- prised at the congenial way she was accepted by them. She also drew the attention of her Zoology instructor, Professor Michaels who Susan, unknown to her mother, had a great crush on. Here a conflict arises between mother and daughter. A charming solution is the answer in which Sue realizes Professor Michaels was just a passing fancy and was meant for her mother. Being the center of attention seems to please Mrs. Abby Abbott fSue Phillipsj, as Howie KBob Bolanderj, Jack fJohn Lindenj, Bill fiifrry Palmj and Bobo fBob Larson! willingly o zge. 'I6
