...of Student Life page 4 The student life of East High is given primary consideration in the sequence of this book be- cause it shows the characteristic spirit of the students who are later shown in more defined areas. Because of its intangible quality, it is the most difficult phase of school to catalog. lt includes everything from the long waits in the third lunch line to the breath-snatching expectation of the crowd as the curtain raises on a school production. ln no other section is there room for more reflection. . . . of Faculty, Classes page 24 This section mirrors East High's faculty members and the areas in which they lead. In many cases, they will be remembered and esteemed for the attitudes and outlook they transmitted as well as for the subject matter they presented. An attempt has also been made to picture classes which will represent each of the major departments in East High's curriculum. ...of Students page 36 This is East High. The stars of its every scene are formally billed on these pages, they also need the third difnensional touch of reflections to make them real people doing real things. These are the people whom the senior will henceforth refer to as members of my graduating class. Here the mid-stream junior may see his class as it appeared in form and member exclusive to 1955-1954. For the sophomore, this section will recall the students who accompanied him on his awesome entrance to East High. . . . . of Organizations page 88 East High's organizations play an important part in every students school experience. Through association with any branches of the music or publications departments, the Eastite may receive professional instruction to develop his talents. In extra curricular organizations, he finds the means to investigate his vocational preference, to learn about fellow humans of different communities and countries, or to pursue interests on co-operative scale. In each case, he has chosen to attach himself to the organization. The spontaneous bond which results between members will therefore be prominent in reflections on this phase of school. . . . .of Sports page l22 The sports picture which this section is privileged to record is statistically the best in East Rockford's history. From every encounter with the cross-town rival, West High, the Rabs emerged victorious. East's top berths in the Big Eight football and basketball competition resulted in dual honors, a combination never claimed before. But statistics are cold, they do not convey the spirit which was manifested in the deafening cheers of Eastites as a fellow student left the courts on fouls. The statistics will be quoted with pride, but it will be the events surrounding them that will provoke reflection. ,Exits
