V RC Boosters Struggle Through Losing Season After compiling Rockford College's most impressive won-lost record in its brief five year history, the i967 RC soccer team suffered through its initial slump, struggling to a lowly l-7-2 showing. The youthful Regents, coached by Howard LaBrant and Chuck DeWild, were out-classed in numbers and ability by virtually every opponent, toppling only Judson by a 4-2 count and tying Shimer and Carthage, all in home games. Co-captains Geoff Hulin C5l and Joe Fall Ml paced-,Rockford in goal-getting, while right- wing Bob Jewett totaled three assists. Half- backs Gil Macey and Augusto Dominguez played aggressive soccer, and freshman goalie Mike Slavin kept the scores respect- able in many games. Macey was chosen as first string halfback for District 520, and Slavin made MacMurray's al l-opponent team. Make-up Editor 1968 Collegianers The student newspaper of Rockford Col- lege, The Collegian, experienced a period of growth this year. Production was made more efficient through the purchase of new equip- ment, and the size of the editorial looard was increased. These advances, coupled with the long hours of work the staff put in during pro- duction weekends, have enabled The Collegian to provide the campus with news, and to serve as a vehicle for campus opinion. Accused of being a mirror of administra- tive views, the T968 Collegian underwent a period of official student investigation result- ing in a trend toward more student oriented articles. Although some students were dissatisfied with RCSG, and cal led it ineffec- tive, some steps were taken to improve the situation. For the first time, theAdministra- tive Council and RCSG Executive Board met together in a ioint session.Atanother confer- ence, student leaders, faculty, and adminis- trators discussed the state of campus affairs and problems. Although these events offered hope for a better government, the problem of student apathy and disinterest in StudentGovernment remained unsolved. v M, V 245415: QL 1,7 ,f .- ' fjffzsfv - Z 4-sk Mike Wadle Executive Vice-President and I Phil Ashley Treasurer Gerald lvlalloy Judicial Board Chairman Haouli Kuba Secretary . s S' 2f44ffff,4?4f'. , 7? gina f w Q,- iidft '1+f?f. A Friend Is Missing The flag was at half-mast and it bore witness to her death. The initial shock was tremendous and its effects will be felt for a long time. Mrs. Doerr was a dynamic woman and a learned professor. In her classes she transformed humanists into scientists and scientists into humanists while capturing the interest of both groups. As a person, she incorporated all of the ideals of Rockford College into her dealings with students. Her friendliness coupled with her complete under- standing of situations made her a true col- league. Mrs. Doerr has left behind heramemory in the minds and hearts of all who knew her. Her example is one that will be followed by her students and successors. It will be just a little harder to carry on this year because--A Friend ls Missing. --The Collegian Ebb: iza.,,....fQ, . , 'bfi-iwwlhlitz, ' ' we 1 .ill I , gap' ' . vw- f . at-'f N , f, i XE 41151 f 'I N -ayrmii ' ' 5 ' wif. 4, 1- nl. mil , 'A i ,U lil 129 D 1 : fy Fx Q' n i I-7-'H L1 L QW an 132 Fowler explains action as observers look on. uThe Lady's Not For Burning Alleluia, Alleluia .ms ... x mi ,.5,X2, Www., M W gy SNA 1L'Wvf'i . I remember orientation, Mrs. Doerr, Dr. King, student rights, studying, final exams, and graduation. I hope that, through this book you, too, will remember these and the host of things which made 1968 a year like any other year yet par- ticular and special. Montaigne has said that lt is our duty to compose our character, not to compose books, and to win, not battles and provinces but order and tranquility for our conduct of life. It is the feeling of RECENSIO 1968 that all aspects of our academic and social lives are expressions of a multitude of quests. Combined, these quests are an expression ofcaur Hduty to conwpose our character. I also remember the joys and disappoint- ments involved in photographing the events for and editing this volume of RECENSIO. Guided by a handful of tireless workers who made this book possible, RECENSIO picked from the events and moments of 1968 those which it would like to see remembered. We hope that our efforts have not been in vain, but that RECENSIO 1968 is an expression of Rockford College 1968. In addition to the editorial board members pictured on these pages, there are those who deserve a hearty thanks for their labors. Indeed, if it had not been for Bruce Hammerslaugh, Walter Benesch, Nancy Smith,AnneHunt,Shirley Hedgedus, Jewel Racke, Ray Byrd,Vicki Glaser, and especially the photographic talents of .lohn taff Wrgif Wally Turnbull . . . Editor-in-Chief Small, this book would not be as complete as it is. I thank you for your work as I thank the stu- dent body for the privilege of editing RECENSIO 1968. -- -- Wally Turnbull Jan Lloyd . . . Senior Editor Pete Arthurs . . .
