And those awful upperclassmen could no longer sing about the greenness of the ireshies. Now they wished we'd be drowned in turpentine! Our class had reduced considerably since our first meeting in fall of '52. Two of our freshman class officers failed to return, several others were lost through engagements, one even going as far as Germany. Yes, our original class membership dropped, but it was given a push upward again by the arrival of some new sophs, both town and dorm residents. We welcomed into our midst Edie Dvmond, Lee Currier, Geri Brown, Gwen Wait, and of course, Bert Rockey. And who could forget our losing Kati at the end of the first semester? It wasn't real until we heard her say, I do. We didn't do too well in basketball, but looked better during volleyball season. We surprised the school by giving them a new kind of Sophomore Day. We had to finally declare a major, and take those traditional Sophomore Tests. Lastly, we ended the first half of our college career under President Cheek, and so had to look elsewhere for further guidance and inspiration.

But by now we too have caught the spirit of friendship at old R. C. The girl across the hall was from California, the girl down the hall from New York, and then there always were those gals from Chicago and Rockford. Thev said that high school was tough, and so we asked, Who were they kidding? We never knew there was so much to learn, and in so short a time. Then they gave us eleven o'clock lights! Lastly, we had our Freshman Show right near mid term exams. We really showed them that the class of '57 had what it takes. We came in last in basketball, but certainly not due to lack ol team spirit or interest in general. The Seniors, Iuniors, and Sopho mores had their days, and then it was our turn! We had our customary picnic at the college farm, the evening of our day. The newness had finally worn off and we anxiouslv looked forward to next vear, when it would be our turn to plan Sophomore Day! I -.
