Even more valuable is the opportunity to read writing in its original language. Rockford has done much, through broad survey courses for underclassmen, leading to intensiiied study during the upperclass years, to correlate the world of letters with contemporary civilization. 15 ,gm :XBBIE FINDL.-XY POTTS ELIZABETH EUCKIVIASTER LORENA M. As you stand now on the threshold of this for which you have spent four years in preparation, you pause for a moment to look back upon these years at Rockford. For your graduation is the culmination of the love and learning, the friendship and inspiration, that flow through each of these experiences. As you look back through the Cupola, you think again of these memorable times, class days and picnics, dances and court sings, May Days and plays . . . blue books and grades. Each contributed toward the ideal that is the spirit of Rockford. Initiation to our traditions guided you toward an appreciation of our freedoms. The new breadths and depths that you discovered in yourselves you have had the chance to investigate. The vigor an'd honesty of your youth have been your guides Most of all you have seen the purpose and symmetry of all these that con- surnate now in your graduation. The development from Alpha through to Omega has been slow but sound. The realization of yourselves has given you courage and made you humble. And now you go forward aware of your responsibilities but with the confidence that you are capable of full participation therein. We have dedicated this book to you, whose friendship has given us inspiration.
