Business and profession111 nien, teachers and civic o1'g1111iz11tio11s joined i11 their PI1ft'1'1illI1ll10Ilf. The visit of this organization is an honor to both Rockford illltl Olll' college. Dr. C. K. Knipp, of tl1e University of Illinois, president of the Acadeniy, visited us 111 the fall, and found college and townspeople ready to co-operate in making this the best as well as tl1e largest an11ual ineeting which scientists have ever held. The opening session, two general sessions, and the sectional nieetings, of which there were six, were held i11 the Chapel a11d Adams Hall. The evening Illeeflllg of April 27 was held in the High School 3llCllfOl'll1I11 a11d was coinpliinentary to the ge11eral public. It was preceded by a dinner give11 to the visiting n1e1nbers. The annual academy banquet was held full? next eve11i11g in the College dining roo1n. Following this there was an illustrated lecture on Cosniogony by Prof. W. D. Macmillan, of the University of Chicago. ' Other notable features of the prograni were a sy111posi11111 o11 tl1e Atoni, 31161 a11 address on the Physiographic and Glacial History of the Rockford Area, the latter by Professor M. M. Leighton, of the State Geological Survey. President Maddox a11d several ineinbers of our faculty presented papers on their own lines of research. Several of the science classes attended soine of the sessionsg all 111E'1HlDG1'S of the college body assisted in e11tertai11i11g the visitors. On Saturday l1lO1'11lIlg tl1e State Matheinatical Society held its prograin, while 111ost of tl1e other people took advantage of the field trips which COI1Cll1tl9l.l the general prograni. Many of the biologists spent the day at Apple River Canyon, The geologists were given a trip by Slut-0111015110 down the Rock River valley as far as Byron. Page 25 1
