! f 1 Glass Bay iBagzant BALLET FANTASIEH The action of the pageant occurs in a sacred wood about the statue of the God of Love. It is midnight and the little elf men and dryads are having their nightly frolic. The unexpected sound of a mortal's step causes them to Hee to the deeper shadows of the forest. Aminta, a shepherd, appears piping his song of love. He pauses to rest in the silence of the night, and dreams of Sylvia, the most beautiful and favored nymph of Diana. Previously, from some point of vantage he has seen her dancing and here again is his fondest dream realized as he beholds her from his hiding place, playing in the silvery moonlight. His surprise and fear upon being discovered by some of the nymphs are com- pletely lost in his great admiration for her as he kneels humbly at her feet and pleads for recognition of his love. Suddenly, in a fit of anger, because of his in- trusion and persistence, she raises her bow and releases the arrow which causes his death. With a defiant glance at the statue she hastens to her retreat. Just before the first glow of dawn appears in the east, the little elves and dryads carry the body of this beloved shepherd to a place of concealment. Dawn heralds the day, and soon the forest is filled with sunshine. The mortals then occupy the earth. As soon as the shadows of night have again fallen, Sylvia, whose heart is now filled with sorrow and regret, returns in search of the body of her devoted lover. Upon failing to find it she falls prostrate before the statue. hfeanwhile the nymphs have made a discovery, Aminta's body is found, and the God of Love revives him with a rose. There is much surprise and rejoicing over this miracle and after an ensemble for Aminta's pleasure, the happy cortege adjourns to Diana's Temple. Page 25 mm it 1,
