Memory Speaks I0 the Three and Tweniy 0 1916 To you who so lately were gathered in a college home, who now are scattered to many homes in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, lkffinnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Vliyom- ing, and Ohio, I would speak. Behold lyfemory as your friend, you three and twenty, cherish me for I will minister to you throughout life. Wherever you may be, whatever your condition, at a call I will bring to you the fragrance of the lVIay- day violets, the cool of the Blackhawk shadows, the grace of dancing figures. Should loneliness come to you, lo I will surround you with the friends of your college home. I Though you call upon me often, still I shall have for you hidden joys, the glory of the apple blossoms, the cheer of the tulips, the courage of the tiny Spring-red ivy leaves. Know too, oh you of '16, I have worked with you, have stored as you have studied, and will give forth to you the gleanings of your study. Limitless is my store of thoughts, of books, of happy events, of kindly com- panions and instructors. For four years, I, Memory, have garnered thought treasures of your Alma lXfIater which seventy years cannot exhaust. There were many days, many events, many friends, I would make live for you, particularly, thoselast days which were the blown roses of a plant long in maturing. Those were days of aspiration and humility, of boundless joy and sadness. There was music, beautiful music, there was a dinner and the twenty and three sat at green-white tables radiant with friendship. There came a Sunday tense with spoken counsel. Then followed a play under the green of the trees and in the quiet of the evening. Hold fast the thoughts of the morning of music and symbolic dancing. There came too a tree ceremony in which class and sister-class were one. At the end of it all you were graduated, you three and twenty, with earnest words and kindly wishes. I, Memory, unite you again with thought of those days. Forget not the all- wisdom, the good will, the true ideals, the friendships of your Alma lXIater. 13
