Innthe mean time, tryouts were held from the sample play book, and Miss McNamara, who directed the play, assigned the parts On March 14, the books arrived, and rehearsals started immediately By we were required to have the second act memorized Miss NcNamara's room and enjoyment and enthusiasm rehearsals were started, pletely memorized by the the end of the first week the first act and half of Rehearsals were ld in were attended with much The second week stage and the play was to be com end of the week The stage was set with makeshift settings, and the actors went threugh their lines and actions farmed with play booksl with much coaching and Hkibitzingn on the sidelines The first night rehearsal lil Everyone was in high spirits and went to work with a will The sec ond and third acts were on schedule, and some choice scenes were done In the second act, the best scene was the death bed scene Mary Alice was the dying girl, but, for some reason, we had an awful time getting her to moan all she did was giggle between lines That scene was always the most hilarious in rehearsals CBackstage it was even more hilarious D In the third act the love interest came into prominence, Everything went smoothly up to one point Let us set the scene for you Mary Alice as Anne, had flung herself sobbing on the davenport. Cornie, as Howard, had come to her rescue and then no more acting. Vhy? The directlons called for a clinch, and Mary Alice claimed she never had occa sion to experience such an act. Of course, every body backstage insisted on her going through with it After much coaxing from the onlookers, and after being showed how by Yetty, she finally suc ceeded in going through with it, never again could she say, nsweet sixteen and never been kissed The next week Cand our lastb we had more prac tices and longer ones. The flrst explosion was totally unexpected, and every one jumped a foot, especially Tiss Ncramara Later on we used blank cartirdges, we had everyone on the jump then. 0n Thursday afternoon we had dress rehearsal, we gave the play to the first flve grades They seemed to enjoy it very much, particularly the explosions and the love scenes Thursday evening after parctice we were invited to a party given by Kiss Pearson at Dr Lock's home vhere everybody thoroughly enjoyed the lunch and the games that were played. At last Friday night arrivellll we were there promptly at seven The excited cast was wondering if there was going to be a crowd, they looked through the cracks and the curtains to see if they could flnd anyone that we knew ue were universal in our worry about remembering lines and actions At last the curtains were raised, and the play bagan. There was a full house, and the play pro very curious to find out how the people llked it. We hurriel to change our clothes, and many of us went dovntown According to the public, we had played our parts excellently We felt very much exhilarated by the reports on the play, we are sure to remember it as a successful milestone on our high school road.
