Football +d Rock Valley ' s Trojans ended the season with six big wins and three insignificant losses. They scrimmaged their way to third place in the N4C Conferance, tackling many an honor along the way. The biggest honor of them all was having the secondary defensive squad finish second in the whole nation! Four team members made all conferance and all region four. They were Hubert Baker-line- backer, Bob Wear-defensive end, Tom Zawlocki-offensive tackle, and Carl Jenkins-halfback. 67 Golf Front, left to right: Jon Leinbaugh, Chuck Nihan. The only returning letterman was Bob Senatre, who also was the teams captain for the ' 72 season. Bart Anderson, Phil Hinde, Dick Finley, John Buechner, Chuck Nihan, John Kutcher, and Jon Lein- baugh outlined the remaining seven players for 1972. The team started the season with Lake County on Sept. 19 as it turned out Lake County was the tough- est team Rock Valley Golf Team would face, by downing the Trojans twice in regular season. After that first loss the Linksmen came back and won all the N4C matches with the exception of DuPage the last match of the season by one stroke. Still this didn ' t stop the Trojans from rolling on, again the Golfers come back to grab the Region 4 Sectional at Freeport. The team carded a 335 with Bart Anderson Medalist turning a 79, Chuck Nihan, Bob Senatre, Dick Finley and John Buechner carried the team on to victory, Nihan pitched in with a 83, Senatre with 85, Finley an 88 and Buechner 90. In the N4 Con- ference the Linksmen slated a second place position, Bart Anderson was second low Medalist in the con- ference. Coach Hawkins was not pleased with the second place showing of the Trojans. We could have won easily, he stated, but we lacked the discipline necessary to win. I believe it ' s my fault, if anyone is to bear the blame. Commenting about the Links- men ' s performance this year, Coach Hawkins was not much happier, This year has been frustrating. We are either up or down, with no middle ground. But with all this the golf team put on a pretty good showing for the 1972 season, with 5 wins and 2 losses. Bottom: Nanc Syse, Linda Renk, Wendy MacAdam. Rock Valley ' s Womens Field Hock- ey Team had a slow start with having trouble getting enough girls to come out for the team. The team moved right along. They practiced twice a week, for two hours at a time. At the games the team was led by Connie Syse, this year ' s captain. She was res- ponsible to talk with officials and to lead the team in warm ups before the game. Most of our goals were made by Nancy Hobba and the rest by Linda Renk. We hope more girls will become interested in field hockey and make next year ' s team even better!
