FOOTBALL Seven lettermen and an encouraging number of recruits enthusiastically answered the initial call of our new mentor, Howard Bash, and his assistant, Leonard Stensaas. ' Activities began with the usual two weeks' practice at Newfork Lake. Several prospects were added to the line up, and on a rain-soaked Rawlins' field the football season officially opened. Tiger fans witnessed many thrillers during an exciting season, especially the traditional Armistice Day game with G River, in which the Wolves carried away the district title. Wildermuth and Marshall were honored on the all-state team. Sept. 13 . . Rock Springs . .. , . Rawlins . .. . Sept. 20 .. Cheyenne Rock Springs Sept. 26 .. Rock Springs Evanston .. Oct. 4 .. The games played with Green River and Superior proved to be the most thrilling of the season. We entered the finals of the District Tournament by playing Superior for first place. The Orange and Black won by the narrow margin of 28-30. Buchan was the senior member of the team to place on the All-District Team. At State Tournament in Casper our boys proved they could take it with the best of them by battling through to fifth place. Taucher was named to the All-State Team. Dec. 19 . . .. . It is the duty of this Board to interpret and enforce all policies and also to present, vote on, and enforce acts concerning new issues each year. The Board is composed of the president, June McTeeg vice- president, Paul Watahag secretary, Patricia Griffithg and treas- urer. Helen Pulos. These officers were chosen at a general election held last spring, at which time were also chosen the chairmen of the various councils: Rose Capen, Bette Rogers, Clarence Johnson, and Paul Juel. This year, for the first time, the four class presi- dents also became members. A few of the projects which were under the supervision of the Board were the Get Acquainted teas and parties, a Clean Up campaign, the basketball identification board, and the newly or- ganized Defense Council. Much of the credit for the success of our school can and should be attributed to the Board of Control, and to its sponsor, Miss Agnew. EOARU 322.AlNS 36 vw 1 111, 53' A ff it E1 E 111 351 ' 25? Qpjf. SE ABRE LA SESION-thus on Tuesday and Thursday af- ternoons the president opens the meetings of the CLUB ESPAN- OL. In the fall the big problem is what to present for our annual assembly program. Sometimes it's a play, MI NOVIO ESPAN- OL, or a Pan American day program with a swift flight over the Americas, or we may take our audience to EL PATIO in Mexico City with a gala floor show. Our dancers swing into action with castanets and tambourinesg and guitars, accordions, and a marimba give us Spanish rhythms. Singing is a favorite part of the club meetings. LA GOLON- DRINA, LA PALOMA, and many others soon become familiar. JUEGOS and occasionally REFRESCOS keep the members from becoming DEMASIADO SERIOS and at Christmas time the PINATA is made and filled. Students begin to ask, When is the Spanish banquet going to be this year ? and soon plans get under way for the traditional fiesta, with the important item of the menu to be settled first. Shall it be ARROZ A LA VALENCIANA or ENCHILADAS this year? Then the program must be considered and favors made as RECUERDOS. This enterprising group, ever in search of new fields to conquer, has finally proved to the boys of the Shop Department that girls are not altogether helpless. This activity, which was organized under the capable direc- tion of Mr. Hess, has become very popular. Its popularity is proved by the fact that twenty-eight girls are now enrolled in the course. Time has been spent learning how to repair cords for electri- cal appliances, how to Wire light bulbs and lamps, and how to read meters. The necessary precautions were especially stressed so that the performance would not end in shocking results. The girls also constructed articles made ot wood' such as lamps, book ends, and footstools. Even the most skeptical nienibers of the opposite sex have been forced to admit that the results were not bad! 3 SMf?G'?r-limes QUT THE l4giN?i5 QRELLERWNQ GEL! L. This active group of girls carries on an extensive athletic program throughout the year. They participate in such sports as basketball, baseball, volley ball, tennis, archery, tumbling, and track. Ribbons and medals are presented to the winners of these events. A point system is used for awarding letters, emblems, and pins. The highest award that can be obtained is a gold pin. In addition to the more energetic forms of entertainment, the girls do not ignore the social element and have an initiation for new members at the beginning of the year, a series of parties, and also a picnic. The league is under the direction of Miss Souder, assisted by a board consisting of Pauline Wesswick, president: Haruko Okano, vice-president, Jennie Bernard, secretary, Doris McQuillan, treas- urerg and Sylvia Manatos, head of sports. THE PLAY'S THE THING . . . . which brings out the dramatic talent of pupils in our school and also provides a very pleasant form of entertainment for all. Mid the entrance and exit of ghosts, terrifying sm-rezmis, and a general mix-up of keys, our first production, Seven Keys to Baldpaten was given. The mystery took place at Baldpnte Inn and was filled with many thrilling episodes. Yes and No was the second production of the year. The first act of this play showed what would have happened if Jo, the lead- ing eharacter, had said nog the second aet, what would have hap- pened if she had said yes, and the epilogue: what really happened. wu- The presentation of four one-aet plays ninrked the annual play festival which was held in February. A variety of burlesque, mystery, comedy, and drama was enacted in the four plays: Fun- ny Businessf' The Giants Stair, Good Medicine. and The House VVith the Twisty Windows. The senior Class play, The Milky VVay, was given in April as a grand finale to the season. 5 i 2 i 0 2 X sfK ii,2i.fiil!viif YC? SALZWATE 'A' L wma iw as rf T., Q L .5 , .X 5 h.
