' fcui ea is in ReOieiv . In the fall of 1936, 239 shy little freshmen ea¬ gerly entered Rock Springs High School. This unus¬ ually large group of curious, slightly confused boys and girls was the future Class of 1940. Eugene Jacobsen was chosen president; Edward Halsey, vica-president; Cleo Fletcher, secretary; and Car¬ men Husa. treasurer. In the spring, Darrell Stiteler and Jean Cameron, the freshman boy and girl hav¬ ing the highest grades, were awarded the Freshman Gres Ventre pins. With much mere confidence, we began our onhomore year. Edward Halsey led us in cur school activities, with Jack Marietta. Marion Lietz, and, Jean Cameron assisting him. It was during the first Femester of 1937-1938 that our class earned one of the highest awards given in our high school—the Citizenship Cup. This was the only time during the four years spent in Rock Springs High School that we received this honor. PREEIDEHT— C. RMEX HI S. VICE-PRESIDENT— EDWWRI) H. LSEY Happy to be upperclassmen, we enrolled as juniors. The class officers were Edwin Soderlund, Marion Lietz, Mary Alice Jackovich, and Ruth Stevenson. For our Junior Prom, the gala night of our high school life, the gymnasium was beautifully decorated with the hourglass motif. We were very proud of our Prom Queen, Carmen Husa, and of her attendants, Cleo Fletcher and Catherine Wilson. In this year, the Class of 1940 presented the first assembly from this school ever to be broadcast over the radio. At last cur ambition was realized—we were seniors. In October, as is the custom, the senior class had the privilege of choosing the Homecoming King and Queen. Edward Halsey and Carmen Husa were the popular couple selected. During the Christ¬ mas vacation, as a tribute to the graduates of former years, we held the Senior-Alumni Danca This was well attended despite the windy weather. The Senior Picnic, one of the last social events of the year, but by no means the least, will take place, in May. Our class has lost 95 members since the fall of 1936, but we have gained many from other high schools. The Class of 1940 has the distinction of being the largest class to graduate from Rock Springs High School. TREASURER- .MARIOX LIETZ SECRETARY- DARRELL STITELER 6
