Purple and Gold CLASS HISTORY In the year of ouri Lord, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, the Class 01 t30 made their debut into their school career in the lowly first grade. We can recall, in the first grade when we were taught our A B C's. Whenever we- did an act or merit, a star was placed beside our name which was written on the board. tWe Seniors always did many things of merit so we had many stars after our namesJ First, in the history of our schooling we had to learn how to write our names. This was sunple. All we had to do was punch holes With a needle around the outline of our names and then we knew how. Second, we had to learn how to read. The first books we received were just simple books, containing such expressions as, Mamma see kitty, kitty see mamma, and so on until we were good readers and writers. Every year added a little more to our knowledge; simple arithmetic, Penmanship, History, Geography and Hygiene, and all other fundamentals, endinv 1 Latin or Spanish and U. S. History. Following these came the Co: also. We graduated from the grade school and entered the J11 ; Junior High School. This is perhaps the beginning of our most On entering the Senior High School, we were grown up -:' some of the higher classmen. We were looked down upon as a! 'At this time came our memories of the grade school experience. could see someone sitting in the corner with a dunce cap on his the corner his face toward the wall, and someone out in the hall. - ' Now you must remember that the Seniors did things of merit not only in . the first grade but also in the High Schools. In the Junior High they had officers to watch that no one would go up the wrong side of the steps, and that no one would go rushing as if in a hurry. We felt that we needed a new school and no sooner were thoughts told and the new school building was built. Did you ever notice the new trophy case up on the upper floor of this building? It was suggested by the Seniors. The idea for paved streets was also suggested by us. There are a great many others which cannot be told now. We do hope that the class of t31 has as much success in school life as we have had.
