GROS VENTRE SOCIETY The Gros Ventre Society is a. chapter of the Honorary So'ciety of Secondary Schools of America, Which now has more than eight hundred chapters. It was established in Rock Springs in 1924, and now has 75 members. Candidates for admission must belong to the upper 257,; of their class. and service, leadership, and character are also taken into consideration. The election is made by a faculty committee appointed by the principal. The members may be chosen in the last semester of their J unior year or in their Senior year. This year's members were chosen in their Senior year. The following boys and girls were chosen: . Clarence Smith, Martha; Rautiannian, Marie McLaughlin, Virginia, Nelson, Arvo Maki, Aileen Whelan, Neliie Paavola, Fred Adams, Marian Chambers, Mary Lucas, Elsie Aho. The members met and elected the following oificers: President-Marie McLaughlin Vice PresidenteAileen Whelan Secretarerirginia Nelson TreasurereaNellie Paavola. All members Were initiated into the Society on April 11, 1930 during gen- eral assembly. Oath was taken and alliwere presented with pins by Miss Darhl Draney. M1; Gus Sturholm was speaker of the day. Aidinh'er is held annually at Howard's cafe, and about forty-five members attend. This year the dinner was held on Thursday, April 24. NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHORUS Tom Jones, the songster of the Class of t30, has represented the Rock Springs High School in both of the Choruses that have been held. The Chorus was held in both 1928 and 1930 at the Stevens Hotel in Chicago. Tom Jones was chosen chairman of the 1928 members of the Chorus who were invited to attend the 1930 Chorus. The aim of this organization is to combine the best youthful voices in .the;United StateS, into one large chot'us. The 1928 Chorus had a membership of 380 and in 1930 the membership haditinereased to 425,. 18

BOARD OF CONTROL The Board of Control, while not being entirely made up of Seniors, direct- ly effects every Senior. The Board of Control of. 30 did some splendid work in publishing a handbook of information for the use of students just entering Rock Springs High School. The Board held a banquet in the Home Economics room in November. The decorations carried out the armistice idea and the program coincided. Edward Perko gave a. war reading and Mr. Thompson said a few words about. the conditions when the Armistice was signed. Mr. Winchell stimulated feeling and agitation for a new high school. Another banquet was held May 13 at Howards. The decorations produced a. summery atmosphere. The program was as follows: A Mental Test; A gouge ttWe Have a. Complex ; Musical History by Freshmen; Violin Quartette-dOIga. Sarcletti, Harold Alenius, Arvo Maki and Steward Blunk, accompanied by Edith Likes; Survey by Elsie Aho; Outlook by Mr. Winchell; Farewell and Welcome ad- dress by Mildred Hansen; and the school song. NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA The National High School Orchestra met in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the week of March 23-27. the same time the Superintendent's Association met. It is made up of 315 High School Students from all over the United States, v The Orchestra held concerts, the final of which was broadcast over the National Broadcasting Station. These concerts and practices were all held in the largest auditorium in the World. Walter Damrosch, famous director, was guest conductor for a selection of the final concert. Joseph Maddy is the director of the Orchestra. Arvo Maki, a member of the class of 30 , represented the Rock Springs High School in the first section of the String Orchestra at this famous affair. Arvo has shown ability to become a. great violinist in the future and we all hope he has success in this field of work. 14
