On September 7, 1921, the largest class in the history of the Rock Springs High School was enrolled. There were one hundred and seven of us and we enthusiastically entered with a determination of becoming a prominent part of the school activities. We proudly feel that our first year was a success. Our class officers were: Ruth Vail, President; Albert Bussey, Vice-President; James Warren, Secretary; Aubrey Bruce, Treasurer. The class sponsors were Miss Wilson and Miss Sloan. During this year our debating team, consisting of Donald Hansen, Josephine Scott, Louise Page, and Wesley Chester, defeated the SOpho- mores in the preliminaries and made a good showing in the finals against the Juniors. We entered our Sophomore year with higher ambitions and a de- termination to hold our own against the upper classmen. Miss Ludeman, Miss Wilson, and Miss Sloan were our class spon- sors. Our class officers were: Raino Matson, President; Wesley Chester, Vice-President; Lucille Dickson, Secretary; Ruth Vail, Treasurer. They proved themselves to be very efficient. In the Inter-Class debate our team, composed of Wesley Chester, Raino Matson, Edwin Magagna and Charles Wassung, won from the Freshmen but lost to the Seniors. In Inter-Class Basketball our team won second place. In the fall of 1924 one of our greatest desires was fulfilled-we had become upper-classmen! The whole yearis work was carried on with very little conflict among the members of the class. Everyone showed their willingness to co-operate and to assist the class officers in the fulfillment of their duties. These class officers were as follows: Raino Matson, President; Wesley Chester, Vice-President; Mary Elias, Treasurer: Jack Adams, Secretary. The sponsors were Miss Warner and Mr. Miller. Our class paper, the ttSagebrusher , proved to be a very success- ful enterprise. The staff consisted of Enid Stark, Editor-in-Chief; Hazel Justin, Associate Editor: Edwin Magagna, Business Manager; Jessie Stark, Exchanges; Ruth Vail, News Reporter; Doras Jameison, Society Reporter; Mary Elias, Alumni Reporter; Donald Hansen, Boysi Ath- letic Reporter; Lillian Clementsen, Girlsi Althletic Reporter; Charles Wassung, Joke Reporter. Our class was represented at the Tournament by Raino Matson 0n the Debate team and Donald Hansen on the Basketball team. We all anxiously awaited the arrival of the greatest event of our Junior year-the Prom! We were not at all disappointed in our expec- tations. A fountain of running water was picturesquely arranged at one end of the gym. Refreshments were served by small boys dressed in white. The music was excellent and everyone had a very wonderful time. We entered our Senior year fully confident that our deeds would go down in the history of the High School. Much of our success was due to the efforts of our class officers and sponsors, together with everyoneis desire to help. Our officers were: Raino Matson, President; Edwin Magagna, Vice-President; Jack Adams, Secretary; Wesley Chester, Treasurer. The Sponsors were Miss Gastonguay, Mr. Liddy and Mr. Kelly. Our class was the first to begin the custom of having a Senior- Alumni dance. This party, given on October 26th, was the first party of the year. We were very well represented at the Tournament in our Senior :Cear. Donald Hansen and Otto Visintainer were on the first team in Baskeball. Edwin Magagna was on the debating team and Hazel Justin went down for amateur shorthand and brought home a shield and gold medal for first place. The class play was the comedy uTurn to the Right'i, and was the greatest achlevement of our Semor year. It was directed by T. J. Kelly. The character portrayals were very excellent. The Senior dance was the first formal affair experienced in the annals of the High School. Although the formality was new to us, T. J. Kelly helped to make it entirer successful from start to finish. On the morning of May 20, 1925, we all piled into cars and were off for Kentis ranch to spend the day. Dancing at the Club House, climbing, hiking and baseball were some of the amusements provided. In the evening everyone gathered around the camp fire and enjoyed thrilling stories told by Miss Gastonguay and T. J. Kelly. Everyone came home tired, but with the feeling that they had never spent a more enjoyable day. During the past few years the Seniors of the High School have had a national honorary society named uGros Ventre , meaning Big Winds . The members of this society were: Lois Page, Louise Page, Enid Starke, Hazel Justin, Lillian Clementsen, Jack Adams, Raino Mat son and Martin McPhie. The evening of May 23, 1295, found fifty-nine of us sitting on the stage of the Rialto Theatre dressed in our cans and gowns. Before us sat a large audience ofparents and friends. The first game was played with the Evanston boys. The Tigers took the lead from the start and kept it throughout the game. Score-52-O. The second game of the season was with Green River. Here our boys had a stiffer competition, but when the whistle blew, the score was 12-13 with the tigers on the long end of the score. The third game was played with Superior, at Superior. This was one of the hardest battles the home team came in contact with. The second team started the game, and held Superior to a tie until Superioris fullback, Sullivan, kicked a pretty drOp-kick for 3 points. When the second half started, the first team went in, and during that half, Sulli- van drop-kicked another goal for another 3 points. At the finals Su- perinr was in the lead with a score of 6-0. The fourth game was with Green River on our field. The first half was a battle between the two teams for the lead, with Rock Springs having the edge. During the second half our boys ran away from Green River. The score ended 19-0 in favor of the Tigers. The fifth game was with Superior, on our field. The Tigers took revenge. for the defeat they met at Superior. Our revenge proved com- plete. We won by 33-7. The sixth and last game of the season was with the Pen City boys. Rawlins, supported by many rooters, came here with the intention of winning the game. It meant a hard fight and a rough game, but the Miners fought, and when the game ended the score was 32-33 with the Tigers on the long end of the score. With this record, the Tigers claimed the South-Western cham- pionship, having been defeated only once in the district. The seniors carried out their class colors and symbol on the programme cards which were presented to each person. The Dixie Symphonators were at the dis- posal of the dancers. Some very clever jazz hits were rendered by the music makers and the Seniors went home feeling that they had enjoyed themselves. J UNIOR PA RTY A very happy event which took place on January fifteenth was the Junior class party. This affair was held in the gymnasium. Each Jun- ior brought a guest. It was not long before all programmes were filled and dancing was in full sway. The high school orchestra furnished the music. SOPHOMORE HARD TIME PARTY To express their own individuality, the Sophomores entertained students at a tthard time'i party which was held in the gym. School , was presented to a large appreciative audience in the Rialto Theatre, May 12, 1926. The success of the play from the financial and dramatic point of view was due greatly to the capableness of the director and manager, Miss Mary Alice Stewart. The Charm School was a drama built entirely upon comedy and youth. From Austin Bevans who sought to teach ttcharm't to the young ladies of the Fairview school, and who discovered that element in Elise down to the mischievious twins, Tim and Tom, admirers of the Winsome Sally, the cast was made up of a very wide-awake retinue of actors. DEPARTMENT The ultimate aim of all Home Economics training is to fit girls for their places in society as home makers. Home making is just taking a recognized place in the last few years as a real profession. In recent years, the world, as a whole, is realizing that home making needs a scien- tific training just as much or more than any other profession. Courses in all phases of Foods and Clothing are offered to all girls from the Eighth Grade to the Junior year in High School. Both courses are planned to train girls to be good managers as well as to de- ve10p skill in the essential household tasks. Better standards for foods, clothing, and personal habits are established by the girls. The aim of the clothing classes is to give the high school girl an understanding of clothing problems by teaching the source, uses, and cost of all standard fabrics and developing skill in the selection and construction of all garments and to help the girl plan clothing for the family with particular attention to her own needs besides the family income. In foods the aim is to teach the planning, preparation and serv- ing of meals and to teach the essential foods for an adequate diet that is necessary for the good health of all the members of the family. The class of '26 has an enrollment of thirteen, three of the number being post-graduates. During the first semester Miss Burns was the instructor, but as she resigned to fill the vacancy of Supervisor of Private Schools of Missouri, the position for the remainder of the year has been amiably filled by Miss Maude Sholty. The subjects offered in this course are Psychology, Methods in all elementary subjects, School Management, Major and Minor Re- views, Nature Study. Observation and Student Teaching. High School activities are also included in the curriculum. Each student under the supervision of the Normal Instructor and the grade teachers is prOVIded w1th ninety hours of Practice Teaching and Observation in grades from one to s1x. Some of the larger articles completed during the year are library tables, cedar chests, writing desks, overstuffed chairs, Morris chair, up- holstered seats, console table, davenport, table, book case, magazine rack, costumers, pedestals, and cabinets.
