SCHOOL COLORS Black and Gold =e Se @ on KOSPHIAN Published by the Senior Class Volume XIX Denver, North Carolina The above breezeway, built in 1949, has been crossed many ti mes during the school year by high school students. They meet each other going and coming, and usually there is a friendly Mhelloveore his However, for a number of years, the breezeway has had a special meaning for the seniors, their mascots, and class sponsor. Seniors and mascots have left their homeroom, donned in -graduation cap and gown of navy blue, made their exit down the breezeway steps, marched to the front of the main building, and formed a processional down the auditorium aisle. It was grad- uation night - an event of mixed emotions. The seniors of 1949 published the first edition of the Rosphian. Each year, since that time, the senior class members have sponsored an edition. The class of 1967 is presenting to you this, the nineteenth volume, the final one as a new high school is under construction for next year. This class, too, will soon make its final exit down the breezeway steps to a new and different life. This edition required much thought, planning, and work. It portrays the activities of each sea- son of the school year - the season in which the leaves turn to gold; the period of the year which brings cold weather and sometimes snow; and the time of year when the leaves and grass turn green, and quite often brings a fresh outlook on life: We hope you will be pleased with this copy, and that it will, at least to some degree, reflect our honor, devotion, and love for Rock Springs School. Our mainregret is that the candid camera- man could not catch you more often and place you in this, the nineteenth volume of the Ros- phian. However, we hope you will find yourself pictured on some page, whether it be class, sport, or favorite spot at school, which will bring joy now, and happy recollections in years to come. If this be done, then we, the last graduating class of Rock Springs High, will have fulfilled our earnest aims. Main Building - houses auditorium, office, libraries, and classrooms. The election of new officers takes place in the spring. The rising freshman, sophomore, and junior class members cast their votes. A committee, consisting of the president, the sponsor, and a representative from each grade nominate two people for the office. A petition may be secured to submit the name of an additional personto run for the office. After aperiodof campaigning, the voting takes place. The homeroom representatives are selected at the beginning of the newschool year by the respective homeroom. Certain ‘standards must be met in order to remain a member of the organization. The Student Council held a chapel program this year on footballrules, safe driving, and Thanks- giving. One of the big events of the year is Homecoming whichis sponsored by the Student Council. This year the members held a car wash in order to pay for the flowers for the girls which made up the homecoming court. Gane Yabrics Made in Amorioa Since 183 183 Many things go into the making of a yearbook that the person who has not beeneditor or advisor does not realize. . A yearbook consists of the efforts of many people, united, yet working separately toward one goal. No matter how outstanding a yearbook may be it is nota success if there is not money with which to pay the bills. Many members of this senior class contributed generously - alloutside schoolhours - of their time, energy, and ex- pense to solicit advertisements to keep their yearbook out of the red and to have more pages this year. The first thanks and appreciation go to those people. The one who brought in the most advertisement receipts won for herself the title, Miss Rosphian. The advertisements, within themselves, took a lot of record keeping and typewriting. Next came days of conducting a subscription campaign for the sale of the Rosphian. This required interest, time, and much record keeping also. The advertisements and subscriptions were met with the greatest success ever. Then came the preparation for the actual work on the book. Selection ofa theme, determining the amount of copy, number and type of pictures, where and how made - in case of sunshine - incase of rain - these are but a few of the problems considered when deter min- ing the layout. After the layout was completed and pictures arrived came the actual work on the materials that make up the yearbook. All this took time and hard work by members of the senior class. Without those who were able to work after school hours to plan the contents, theme, picture schedule, and to do necessary work the completion of this yearbook to meet a deadline would have been impossible. I feel that they are dye a ''Special Annual Feature , and a note of thanks. A few weeks after mailing the material to Delmar Printing Company the proofs return to be read and any errors corrected. When the yearbook arrives, there must be supervision of the distribution and the closing of the book- keeping records. I wish to pay tribute to the seniors who contributed so vitally to the making of the 1967 Rosphian. My regrets go to those who because of their daily schedule were not able to give assistance. We hope that out of our efforts has come a book of which you, the student body, the parents, and teachers will be proud. It has been a pleasure to have had the privilege of acting in an advisory capacity for the Rosphian. 184 f ™ Bs - [ ra - ee a AA: ‘a ii 7 ae crdtenh ee iN Neem iy ; (as bee rey eS Aba = “ee en ROE ence R = ARES Bi oH RS Se aaen
