THE 1966 Published by The Senior Class of ROCK SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL Denver, North Carolina EIGHTEENTH VOLUME a Ore word We, the Senior Class of '66'', present to you the eighteenth edition of the Rosphian. As the years goby we hope that this book will help you to recall fond memories of our year and our class. ' Let not the memories of 1966 be like old soldiers and sim- ply fade away, but use this book to preserve them. May you receive as much pleasure in reading this Rosphian as we have had in creating it. Dedication The Senior Class of 1966 wishes to dedicate this eighteenth edition of the Rosphian to the ones who we feel have contributed the most to our growth, education, and well being. We dedicate this annual to Our Parents. We want to express to our parents all the gratitude possible for without their support and guidance we couldnever have attained the goal which we are now rapidly approaching -- our high school graduation. Senior Chis Stistory Soon we, the class of '66, will be leaving Rock Springs High. Now as our time draws near, let us look back-on these past twelve years and especially the last four. - Who could forget our first day of school when as frightened little children we came? Who could forget that first year when the little boys chased the little girls and when we played more than we studied? : As we entered the ninth grade, the little boys were still chasing the little girls, and often we played more than we studied. But we surely weren't frightenedany more. No indeed! We fresh- men made more noise and stirred up more commotion than all the other high school students put _ together. It was quite a year allright. We struggled through algebra and science and almost became frightened again in driver education. No wonder -- the way some drove! ; As sophomores we calmed down some but not much. Wecut up worms in biology and learned a new language in Spanish. During this year most of us became sixteenand started driving. This | Opened up many new areas ofinterest! The highlight of the year for many was the Junior-Senior Banquet when many sophomores served as waiters and waitresses. None of us will ever forget our junior year. Our football team started the year off with a bang by beating arch rivals, Bandys and West Lincoln. We then began work on the year's big event -- the Junior-Senior Banquet. We had to work hard, but it was certainly worth the effort. Everyone agreed that our 'Roman Holiday was the most beautiful banquet ever. The climactic event of the year was our New York and Washington trip. What a week that was! We saw the sights and had fun until we were about to drop. We especially enjoyed the once-in-a-life-time experience of seeing the World's Fair. | The summer passed quickly and soonour yearhadbegun. Thefirst big event was the arrival of class rings. This made everyone feel like true seniors. The work began early on our Lo) Fete 8) ere ject -- the Rosphian. With Mrs. Sigmon's patient help work progressed steadily on the annual. We elected superlatives and school queens, andthis madeus quite proudof our fellow classmates. There are many other things about our year that we will never forget. We willnever forget all the times Mrs. Sigmon led us in the school song; all the times we got headaches in geometry, bookkeeping, and English; all the times we cried and all the times we laughed; and all the times we were told to act like seniors. It has been a great twelve years and a wonderful last four. When we leave these hallowed - halls of R.S.H.S., we will carry with us the precious memories of our class. We will never for- get them. -- Bruce Armstrong Our class honors the class of '65 and other guests with a Roman Holiday.
