Although these activities take on the aspects of playing, the little students emerge with added knowledge. Academically, they delve into reading, readi- ness, math readiness, science, social studies and writing. Social adjustment is one of the most important part of their beginning year. Many friendships are formed that will grow through the school days. Mrs. Charlene Steele and Mrs. Suzanne Fentiman was in charge of learning of these students. Fifty-five academically motivated, creative students en- tered grade four the latter part of August. Early in the year, Mrs. Mifflin's class studied different aspects of the tropical rain forests and deserts of the world. They also learned of early times and famous people in their own home state, Missouri. Multiplication and division, magne- tism and electricity have been highlights in Math and Sci- ence. To add to their knowledge and pleasure, for the second successive year, Mrs. Reid's class has corre- sponded with a fourth grade in Newington, Conn. They strived to put the l-YOU PEACE symbol to work, and made peace posters. Newspapers can be fun was the motto applied to the use of newspapers in the fourth grade classroom. This grade was taught by Mrs. Maradi Mifflin and Mrs. LaVona Reid. --'XM WI X NX N X ,ns fttt S is is X Bryan Slusher t Qs Q S Kim Smith . Meetings were held throughout the year to discuss important matters such as the way cars were being parked in the parking lot, raising of class dues, and other various matters con- cerning the student body and school. Attending meetings and lending beneficial advice was Mr. Robert Couldry, sponsor. Officers were Pam Mobley, treasurer, Nathan Schaffner, president, and laNay Martin, secretary. Nathan and Mr. Couldry get together on their ideas. .V Maw... Sfudenf Body Gov'f. .T -:L . F K 11 if :::::::: ' : : X. l H S. Some of the highlights of the trip included: a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River, touring the Anheauser-Busch factory, seeing the Arch and going up in it, and seeing the St. Louis Cardinals stadium and touring its museum. This was a fun, but exhausting trip, which will always be a memory to the seniors of 1980.
