First Step The biggest challenge for first graders this year has been learning to read and add and subtract. They have also been busy learning letter sounds, how to print neatly, and all about animals, weather, space, maps, other countries, and holiday customs. Their learning has been made more fun with games, group discussions and art activities. They were taught by Mrs. Mary Bryan, Mrs. Deanna Whitford and Mrs. Cheri Zimmerman. At left: Showing off! These have become more meaningful through the use of cassettes. In science, they've studies about heat lights, electricity, etc. History was interesting this year through Families of Long Ago and Families of Different Countries. Highlight of the year were riding on the tire truck, parties given by the room mothers, playing on the new play- ground equipment, touring the Atchison County Library and hearing Ms. Proper tell stories. Last but not least, Grand- parents Day. Teachers were Mrs. J ane Nigh, Mrs. Dorothy Peck and Mrs. Cheri Zimmierman, reading and math. Aha! I think I've got it
