Lauri leams to sew. Another day in Consumer Education. aku fa , ,..o Mrs. Tarp explains instruction sheet. Mrs. Jo Tarp's Home Economics classes had a full year. The Home Ec. I classes sewed, cooked, worked on personal de- velopment and money management, and constructed child- ren's books. Home Ec. II was an extension of Home Ec. I. These students increased their knowledge of household ap- pliances and planned a kitchen. Child Development class was basically the study of children from before birth to age six. Consumer Ed. planned budgets, how to spend and borrow money, and how to use a lawyer. Marriage and Family Living studied dating, marriage, children, and divorce. Advanced Clothing designed and made their own outfit. An in depth study of foreign, meatless, and guest foods was included in Advanced Foods. These students also worked on nutrition and disease. Expo nding Knowledge The language arts, speech, and composition were taught by Mrs. Barbara Marquart and Ms. Dixie Glascock. Comp. I, II, and III, plus Language Arts I and Literature II were all instructed by Mrs. Marquart. Here composition classes con- centrated on correct sentence structure, vocabulary, out- lines, and writing good paragraphs and essays. Language Arts I was a class for the freshmen. They studied the basic parts of speech, spelling, punctuation, and sentence struc- ture. Literature II concentrated on short stories. Ms. Glascock taught Speech I, Lit I, III, and IV, drama, and Language Arts I. The speech students learned how to pre- pare short speeches as well as developing their ability to communicate clearly with other people. Lit I was a study of the fundamentals of literature. The Lit III and IV classes studied novels, plays, and poems. Drama students learned about the history of the theatre as well as modern theatri- cal practices. At right: Mrs. Marquart has a good day. M...-ur' Joey straining his eyes. Moth + Work I Fun Mr. Wayne Moore returned to teach the high school math classes after a years absence. The classes offered were Alge- bra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Trignometry, and Phys- ics. These students had homework assignments almost daily and quizes and tests periodically.
