resler takes over rocky helm Rock Island High School ' s Var¬ sity Basketball program exper¬ ienced what could be called a rebuilding year in the 1978-79 campaign. The Rocks lacked experience with only two re¬ turning lettermen, Randy Wright and Tim Ward, left to lead the team under new coach Don Resler. Resler, who previously led Sycamore High School to many winning years in the past, could not lead the team over the hill to victory. Lack of per¬ sonnel let sophomores Wayne Steele and Blake Wortham be moved to the varsity as start¬ ers. The team ' s leadership came from Randy Wright, Tim Ward. Mike Long, Kelvin Rum- mels, Andre Thornton, Gary Nelson, and Kenny Pierson. Number 21. Tony Garrard skies to snatch down a rebound for the Rocks.
