Students Lean Toward Writing Earning recognition for their avid interest in journalism and for services rendered, ten Rocky seniors were cho¬ sen as members of the National Quill and Scroll association. These students were those historians and reporters rec¬ ording the past and informing the school and community of current events. Members had to have worked on staffs of the Watchtower and Crim¬ son Crier, and have been in the upper third of their class. Also keeping Rocky news in the fore¬ ground were the two Times-Democrat correspondents, Peggie Hotle and Pete Soderberg, who submitted articles weekly to the Times-Democrat ' s teen page. TOP: Peggy Hotle and Peter Soder¬ berg take time to relax after getting an article in on time for the Times- Democrat. ACROSS: Enthusiasm generates from the Quill and Scroll members. FIRST ROW: Kathy Klatt, Lori Leatherman. Jay Larson, Susie Gorsuch. SECOND ROW: Suzy Schwartz, Jan Ellis, Carol Clark. Rhonda Gay, Ann Oetting, Lynn Foley. 21

102 Become Members From ologopolistic industries to iconoclastic nihilism and beyond, the hundred and two members of the 1972 National Honor Society are kept in a constant state of awareness. This group represents the cream of the crop at Rock Island High School. Members can look to a past of long hours spent in the library reading Dr. Reuben, sleepless nights out on the town, eye strain from sitting too close to the tube, but still the main¬ tenance of a 92 or above grade point average. Obviously, the past four years were not all play and no work and graduation time brings much pride for these students. Society members receive much deserved recognition and honor at their induction service and banquet. Rotary Selects Eighteen Each month the Rock Island Rotary Club brings two young men from Rocky into their ranks. Senior males may qualify for this distinction through their good citizenship, promising leadership and grades throughout high school. The eighteen junior rotarians are chosen by the faculty. These students are invited to a luncheon every Friday where they meet and discuss topics with senior Rotary members and listen to speakers on various subjects. Junior rotarians serve as models to the male population of Rock Island High School. They are the future leaders of to¬ morrow ' s society.
