Time of Growth In Community, Schools School year 1966-1967 witnessed change and growth at all levels. Interna¬ tional problems in the Vietnam war and national grief over the tragic deaths of As¬ tronauts Grissom, White, Chaffee, and world- beloved cartoonist Walt Disney caught the attention of Rocky students. And as they aware of the world changing, they also watched the rapid growth in the community around them. Plans were set into motion for a new 11- million-dollar Franciscan Hospital to re¬ lieve some of the present strain on Rock Island’s St. Anthony’s. Projects were proposed for such services as a downtown parking building, larger jet runways for the Quad-City Airport, new low- cost housing for the aged, and another flood wall. Workmen constructed the new Modern Woodmen building and added final touches to the Sheraton Motor Inn. At the school level, students also found great change. Some of the graduating Se¬ niors looked forward to lounging in the new dormitories at Augustana College or reap¬ ing the benefits of the projected new campus buildings at Black Hawk College. Juniors and Sophomores peered through peepholes in anticipation of the opening of the new addition at Rocky. This was a year of change and progress —in the nation as well as in the community. FINAL touches signaled the com¬ pletion of the attractive Sheraton Motor Inn.
