Like the odor of brine from the ocean Come the thoughts of other years.” — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow The sun rises over the Mississippi River, mak¬ ing a stark silhou tte of the Centennial Bridge. It is one of two bridges from Rock Island to Daven¬ port, Iowa. Beyond Iowa are Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, California, Hawaii, and the Pacific Ocean. When does going West stop —when is the East reached? Around the world, around the country, around the state, or even only around the city, graduates of Rock Island High School will branch out into widely divergent fields; but whatever bridges they cross, all will occasionally have “thoughts of other years”. If this annual spans the bridge from later years back to high school ... if this annual forms a bridge to the future ... if this annual builds a bridge from teacher to student, from class to class . . . the Watchtovcer has served its purpose.
