Discussing matters important to the future of the high school are the Rock Island Board of Education members. Maxwell G. Larson; William Bell, vice-president; Dr. C. W. Motz; Earl H. Hanson, superintendent of schools; Junius P. Califf, president; Virgil Helms, assistant superintendent of schools; and Ted Arnold. Earl H. Hanson Superintendent of Rock Island Public Schools Although the students of Rocky do not come into close contact with the members of the Rock Island Board of Education, they are aware of the great tasks which these civic-minded men per¬ form for their benefit. Past members of the school board chose the sight of our present high school and helped to obtain our great high school fieldhouse. Present duties which these men are performing include the hiring of faculty, organiza¬ tion of policies and decisions concerning Rocky, organization of curriculum, and the provision of funds for even further expansion. At the head of the Rock Island Pub¬ lic Schools Administration, which works closely with the school board, is Earl H. Hanson, author of several articles on American education and an extremely capable man. 14

ROCKY PROUD OF ITS CAPABLE, DEDICATED STAFF OF TEACHERS F. W. Aspedon, B.A., M.A. Assistant Principal, Student Senate Rocky is proud of its excellent faculty composed of hifrhly capable men and women. Through patience and understanding the faculty strives to pass on its wisdom to the students. Teachers spend many hours at their work. Planning a regular course of study and daily assignments, com¬ posing tests and grading them, compiling grades and issuing tardies are only a few of the teachers’ tasks. Many hours are also spent before and after class giving extra help to tho.se who desire it. Many faculty members supervise extra-curricular activities which combine work and recreation. Such activities are the Y-Teens, Pan-Ameri¬ can League, Dramatic Club, and Electronics Club. As you can see, a good faculty is a capable, willing one. Rocky boasts of such a faculty. 16
