BOYS' CDRATCRV A feather in their cap was given to the boys' oratory team when they won first place in the triangular meet be- tween lloline and East lloline. Three of the boys who went to lloline took first, second and third place, respective- ly, and the three who orated at Rock Island also captured hrst, second and third. Jerome llaggid, as Northwest repre- sentative, came home with honors, as he won second place in the Northwest Con- ference. Since variety is the spice of life, the team spoke o-n everything from history- making to automobile accidents. The team and their orations are as follows: Jerome lllaggid, UTlie lllonster in the Public Squaref, James Haymaker, Hliloody Altarsf' Scotty Terry, i'Youth Speaksf, Carl Welch, 'jean Valjeanfl Dick Langhinrichs, The Crisis in Charac- terf' Dick Hainline, f'Convict 9653.y' EXTEMI3 'fSuccess'y was the keynote of the ex- temp team this year, and success it was. YVithin the span of two weeks the team began and finished with the results being very satisfactory. Rock Island took first place in the contests with lwoline and Galesburg, and the grand finale of the season was scored when Richard Langhinrichs, as our representative, took first in the Northwest Conference. Louis Pesses and Lucille Brotman also received honors, Louis tying for third place at Galesburg, and Lucille taking third place at hloline. Others who gave a good showing were Justin Rinehart and Dorothy Zimmer.

Such were the phrases quoted by the girls on the declamation team when they again had a gold star added to their his- tory. Capturing second place in the tri- angular contest between llfloline and East llfloline, they climaxed their season by tying for first place in the Northwest Conference. The debate squad had another success- ful year, winning 20 out of 34 debates. Under the two capable captains lVIar- garet Ford, affirmative, and Dick Lang- hinrichs, negative, the team captured third place in the Northwest Con- ference. The other meet was held at Augustana College and they won high honors there also. The subject was, Resolved, that the several states shall adopt a unicameral system of legisla- tion.', The squad is coached by P. J. Martiri. DEBATE

. l21.,p, P--, ,..+ f 1 JUNIOR CLASS PLAY i'Your Uncle Dudley, a light comedy filled with rollicking humor, was pre- sented by the junior class, hlarch II. Uncle Dudley, a bachelor, who was called upon for both devotion of time and financial assistance for various civic activities, was very ably portrayed by Carl UXVil- lumw XVelch. His interest in the fairer sex proved to be Rlargaret Ford, playing the part of Christine Sederholm. The Church family, to whom 'ADudley is related. consists of Dorothy Boyd as Klabel Church, the dominating mother, Juanita Potter as Ethelyn. her talented daughterg and Bill Johnson as Cyril, her teen-age son. VW: mustnlt forget the fine characterization of planet Dixon, the grandmother, played by Janet Swanson. Helping to sum up a well-picked cast are David Sturgis, man-about- town, Charlie Post, and Justin Reinhart, who supplied the romantic interest of the story by portraying Robert Kirby.
