DEDICATION In appreciation for his kindness, his understanding of young people’s problems and his high ideals of scholarship which have made us better citizens, we dedicate this 1954 edition of the Rock Hill Annual to our teacher, principal and friend, MR. WALTER RUSSELL. Mr. Russell first taught at Rock Hill in 1927 and has taught here at three different intervals for a total of 18 years. In 1936 he received his B. S. Degree in Education at Ohio University. In 1952 he received his M.A. Degree in School Administration at Marshall College. He spent 28 months in the U. S. Armed Forces serving in Italy and Southern France. In 1933 he was married to Thelma Lyons. Mr. Russell likes to hunt and fish when he is not devoting his time to school activities. Mr. Russell advises young people to decide early in life what profession will give them the greatest happiness, then strive to be the best in their chosen profession. ■ ’ •'t' -a; ... ;--i “y:.- Tri r ■ '....' SENIOR CLASS POEM TREASURED MEMORIES Our high school life at last is ending, From this life, forever, we must part, But the happy years we’re spending, Will live as memories in each heart. • Then a life that’s new will just begin, As we strive to better the best. To win and win and win again, Till we’ve reached the topmost crest. We must give up our high school fun, Leave our friends and classmates, too, Enter a life that has just begun, For there is work for us to do. When there is homework to do, We grumble and complain, But after this year is through, We shall miss it just the same. The teachers have been kind and grand, And we would like to express, For their patience and their helping hand, Our gratitude and thankfulness. Our heroes number twenty-fold. But just to name a few, There’s Keith whose legend ne’er grows old, And Jim and Bill Roth too. In scholarship we have Woodrow, Betty, Dan, Don and Faye, Pretty girls we like, and so, There’s Eva, Joyce and Effie Mae. Soon each one shall choose his life’s work, And press on toward the goal, To do his best; to never shirk, With hand, and heart and soul. Then we must leave “Ole Rock Hill High” Its memories we will cherish dear, For the years have swiftly glided by, And Graduation Day is here.
