Class History A column of smoke rose beyond the distant hill and captured the attention of a group of tourists who were touring the Indian Territory of Ohio. As the group looked toward the horizon with all eyes fixed on the column of smoke, the guide explained it was the Rock Hill Tribe calling together its session of learning for another nine moons. The guide told the following story: Many moons ago three columns of smoke could be seen rising in the distance. They were from the tribes of Pedro, Kitts Hill, and Hanging Rock. These three tribes have now been combined into one called the Rock Hill Tribe which explains the one column of smoke. The learning of the tribes was divided into four periods. The chief and second chief of the lower class of learning for Pedro, was Chester Kelley and Cecil Wilds, and from Kitts Hill, they were Roberta Brooks and Erma Huddle, and from Hanging Rock they were Paul Davidson and David Wagner. The scribes for the three tribes were Peggy Ferguson from Pedro, Helen Lambert from Kitts Hill, and Gloria Coyer from Hanging Rock. There was quite a bit of rivalry between these tribes as they met in conflict during the first and second periods of learning. The second period began and different leaders were chosen. Hanging Rock's chief and second chief was Paul Davidson and Jim Hoptry, from Pedro there was Cecil Wilds and Bob Kiser, and from Kitts Hill there was Erma Huddle and Peggy Rowe. The scribe for Kitts Hill was Lois Gannon, for Pedro was Dick Pemberton, and Allen McConnell was chosen for Hanging Rock. A new job arose during this period, the wampum had to be cared for. Peggy Ferguson was chosen for this position. Three smoke signals designated the opening of the third period of learning for the three tribes. Chief and second chief were chosen as follows: Dick Pemberton and Cecil Wilds for Pedro, Roberta Brooks and Golden Webb for Kitts Hill, Paul Davidson and Jim Steed for Hanging Rock. The scribes for this period were Peggy Ferguson for Pedro, Freda Gallion for Hanging Rock, and Erma Huddle for Kitts Hill. Margaret Layne was chosen to care for the wampum of the Pedro tribe. During the fourth, and last period, the three tribes were united into one, called the Rock Hill Tribe. Many braves and maidens did not return and many were late in joining thr tribe. Leaders were at last chosen after practically all that were going to attend had arrived. Chief and second chief for our Rock Hill Tribe was Ralph Ackison and Jim Kessinger. The scribe was Bob Reffitt and Catherine Kimble was chosen to care for the wampum. The period continued with the usual difficulties. In the future we are expecting the Rock Hill Tribe to grow and become one of the strongest in the nation. Our Indian guide suddenly came out of the trance he had been in while telling the story. This signal was completed and we continued on our sight-seeing tour. 19

Class Poem Lillian Bentley, her eyes are so dark. With a certain boy she loves to spark. James Wilson, with weight like a brick, Was caught doing stunts on a pogo stick. Lois Sutton, her temper so great, Would make a fine boy a very good mate. Peggy Ferguson, a girl with a smile, A sweet disposition, and plenty of style. Bernice Saunders and Gloria Rowe, When they tell things, they’re really so. I'm sure Cecil Wilds must be quite lovesick Cause he combs his hair till it looks rather slick. Danny Ferguson and his brother Jim Practice their motto Chin Up And Grin. Alberta Burks is a very good friend, Like Helen Mullins will work till the end. Gary Deer and Jimmy Steed. With all their wit are sure to succeed. Lorraine Valentine is as still as a mouse, I wonder if she'll talk when she becomes a spouse. Bobby Brammer is very short. Keeping score is his favorite sport. Ruth Clement gets lots of A's, Who wouldn't like her lovable ways? Alan Dalton, a character to depict, Whose capabilities you cannot restrict. In size Bill Hutchinson is really quite brief. But in his future there's a title called Chief. Lawrence Bailey arrived at ten, He blushed and sighed, Clock stopped again. At one o'clock Roscoe awoke with sorrow, And said to Mom, I'll attend school tomorrow. Of Roy Blagg it has been foretold He will retire with riches whenever he's old. In English class Margaret Layne once wrote. It is high ideals I will try to promote. Fletcher White, who works at the Ro-Na, Seems to talk a lot, but has nothing to say. A thoughtful Senior, is Barbara Layne, Who seems to know most everything. A little Moore girl, her name is Dottie, She's very cute, but Oh! so naughty. Here's Avanelle Stapleton, so quiet and shy, She'll find success with the F. B. I. 20
