Michael Smith is definitely a quick rebounder. The Bearcats faced Northwestern early in the season in the consolation game of the Sertoma Clas- sic. The team overcame a fourth-quarter rally by the Trojans to take the victory in overtime. The next meeting of the two was in the Northwestern gym where the Cats again walked away winners. The two teams would meet again later in the season. Although the Boys' Varsity proved too much for Northwestern, they had a season filled with ups and downs. The team played excellent basketball all year and never gave up trying to win the State playoff. The team exhibited the true class of Rock Hill High each time they took the court. The Bearcats have the Bruins at their feet! 181

The 1981-82 Boys' Varsity Basketball Team definite- ly provided excitement to the games. The team was one that would run and gun with the ball. They kept a very quick tempo, always attacking the opponent trying to create scoring opportunities. Coach Jim Bolt used pressing defenses and shooting offenses to pro- vide the excitement of his team. The Varsity Boys'season was a long one in which the team worked hard for every win. The team was one of the most dedicated teams in Rock Hill history. They began working in April and continued through the summer and into the next school year until the first game in December. After the season began, the boys began perfecting what they had learned. In December, as the Bearcats faced Olympic High School in Char- lotte, they won the first game of the season to begin what would be an interesting season.
